Bushfires and Quilts

On Saturday the Bushfire Royal Commission report was released, bringing back many memories for us in Victoria of the terrible bushfires on Black Saturday. So many lives and homes were lost, and while some people have rebuilt, many others are still waiting…..
After the fires many quilters around the world offered to donate quilts to those who had lost everything. Cheryl Goss from Willowberry Designs offered to finish tops that were ready to quilt, and so I sent my unfinished log cabin quilt top to her. She did a beautiful job of quilting it as you can see here (the second quilt in the post!).
Now many of the quilts that were made were given to charity organizations to hand out, but mine got to go to friend of a friend’s 🙂 Agnes lost everything in the Whittlesea fires. When the quilt was all done, my friend Robyn gave it to her and she immediately sent a thank you back to Cheryl and myself. I’m afraid I have be really slack in posting about this.. I was going to post on the first anniversary….. but missed it, and then it never seemed the right timing. But now, with the release of the Royal Commission, I am finally getting around to doing it.
Here is the card Agnes sent to thank us:
And finally a photo of Agnes with her quilt:
I do hope she has enjoyed snuggling under it this winter. It certainly has been a cold one. Thank you Cheryl for helping me finish this quilt, and giving us the opportunity to bless someone with it. Agnes is doing well and has been blessed with a new home and furniture after losing everything. Please say a prayer for those who are still struggling with the loss of possesions and loved ones. I pray that we will never see a day like this in Australia again.
Glad she is back on her feet. The quilt turned out gorgeous. L,A-
The quilt is beautiful. I'm sure she loves it. Nice that you helped out 🙂
Lovely quilt! I sent blocks down there to be made into quilts. I hope they helped to cheer someone.
