Got a few things done around the house today. I took a photo of these chookies I finished on the weekend. They had been waiting for a few months for eyes 🙂 They are all real chooks now, ready to sit on a cookbook and keep the pages open for someone.
Elizabeth baked yummy breadrolls. Last night I had made mini meatballs to put in them, and this morning she was up early putting the flour etc in the bread machine. She then shaped the dough around the meatballs, glazed them with egg wash and sprinkled sesame seeds on top. They turned out really well! And with flour so cheap here, they cost next to nothing (just the other day I bought 5kg of flour for only $1!!).
After the sandstorm and thunder storm everything was dirty, so the boys and I went to work outside around the house. We swept and then hosed down the area in front of our house:
As you can see, we have a little garden in the front:
A high wall surrounds our house (and everyone else’s, for privacy). That door you see there is the gate to the world. As soon as Elizabeth and I go out that gate, we need to make sure we are covered. I will post a photo one of these days of how we look 🙂
We didn’t get to cleaning the sides of the house….. they still look like this:
and even worse, this:
But at least we got the front done so that we are not constantly walking all the dirt in the house. It gets in enough by itself!
I managed a few minutes in the sewing room… to make another little 4″ log cabin block:
Will they turn into chooks? Wait and see….
Tomorrow morning is class with my sewing ladies. We are going to pin and start quilting the table runners. One good thing about teaching a class and sewing alongside your students is that you end up with a FINISHED PROJECT! At least, you should…!!
Bedtime… have a lovely weekend everyone 🙂
I guess you have no water restrictions! We need more photos of your house Joy! We are interested in where you live now 🙂 Glad your photos are uploading now 🙂
Hi Joy–thanks for sharing your "new"-"old" life with us!!! It does look interesting over there–but I am not sure I would like the sand storms–so why am I thinking about moving near the ocean???? I would not be that close!!! Love the chooks!!
Hugs, di and miss gracie
Hey! The quilt blocks look great! Your house looks cool! Can't wait to see more!
Angela

And I wnat some of those yummy looking meatball rolls.
L,A-
I'm looking forward to seeing the pics of you "covered". It's certainly different living in a foreign country, I remember when I lived in Singapore that I had a gardener – so he would have swept up all the leaves and stuff for me.
I have to put your chooks on my To Do list now, I'm forever having cookbooks close on me, will save having greasy fingerprints on them now.
love the choookies..oh my them dust storms would be a bothert to housework..hmm them rolls sound divine, cheers Vickie
Chooks?? Never heard of them! Boy are they darling and what a cool idea!! Love it! Rolls looks so good!! Wow, lots of sand!!!
So glad you visited my blog, Joy, I didn't realise you had one too. Do you have much quilting materials in Saudi? Love those chooks, what a great idea as book page holders!
Hello Joy, I bet that dust gets into everything…we recently had a dust storm….it was everywhere…bit hard to clean up with the water restrictions we have….enjoyed seeing your little chooks…Warm Regards, Lyn
Your chooks are so cute and a great idea, I'm always sitting a packet or something on my cookbook to keep it open … is it possible to share how you make them? Sorry if I missed it somewhere.
Those breadrolls look and sound delish with a meatball inside!
Hi Joy!
It must be so much fun to teach!
Your home looks beautiful Joy; how long have you been living in Saudi? I'm intrigued! Would also love to see what you look like when you walk in to the 'world'!! It must be so different…
Lots of love!
Vikki xo 🙂
