I had such a lovely day yesterday! Five friends dropped by in the morning to check out all the new fabric, and then two stayed and sewed for the rest of the day! What a great way to start the year! We drank cups of tea, chatted, oohed and aaahed over the new fabric… and generally had a terrific time 🙂
Of course some of the ladies bought fabric, so that meant I have less to iron and put on the shelves, lol! I will try my bestest to take a photo later today of how the shop is progressing. Dan was soooo good and put together three new bookshelves from Ikea for me, and, dare I say this out loud, I think I actually have enough bookshelves in my house for the first time in my life… gasp!!! ‘Tis amazing! But let’s see, I am not done folding fabric yet.. hee heee!
So yesterday when the other ladies had gone, Marisol and Janelle stayed for lunch and sewing. We decided to tackle a project from Sandi Blackwell’s book Square-agonals:

If you don’t have this book I would highly recommend you get it. It has such nifty projects in it! You can get a sample of her technique here:

We had already tried the free pattern and loved it so much that I went and ordered the book. So yesterday we tried out a little table runner called “Cat’s Eyes” and mine turned out like this:
I really, really like it 🙂 It did turn out to be quite small though, so today I am going to experiment with making it bigger. Marisol and Janelle are coming to sew again, so we should get lots done!
Here are all three of ours together on the design wall:
Well, here is to a great year of sewing and getting lots of projects done!!! Happy 2012!
Joy, saw your comment on your blog about my book “Square-agonals”. Thank you for the lovely comments, recommendations, and excitement. Please feel free to send your photos to me so I can post in my “student” album on my facebook …..and I love what you did with “Cat Eyes”. It is easy to enlarge the patterns, just enlarge the size of the blocks, as long as they are all the same size it will work, then you can add any border treatment you like.Thank you again. Sandi
Love your Cat’s eyes table runner. Would love a pattern for it.
Happy Sewing
Thanks
