A Day in the Desert

It is the end of the weekend here again. Weekends always seem to fly by! Yesterday we went for a bbq in the desert, one of dh’s favorite things to do. He would have been happier if we could have camped, but we needed to be back today, so we made do with just a day in the dunes 🙂
We headed off in four cars. I tried very hard to stick my camera out of the window to take photos of our convoy, but the problem with dunes is that one minute you can see all the cars ahead, and then next they are hidden behind a dune. I ended up getting more sky than cars, but at least the sky was pretty, don’t you think?
We got to our picnic spot and set up ….
See the tracks up that big dune behind us? That’s where dh tried to get up and over 🙂 And failed 🙂 But he did get the furthest he’s ever been on that dune because the sand was nice and hard.
The bbq set up… the guys cooked and it was yummy!
After lunch we all went for a little wander….. the younger ones had the most energy, and decided to walk to one of the highest dunes while we watched from afar:
Zooming in a bit… they met a guy on a quad bike along the way….
Just before we packed up, the guys got to play in their cars a bit….
This little cutie though I was taking his photo:
Now some people think that nothing grows in the desert, but they are wrong. It is amazing how much vegetation you do find… even some flowers:
I picked the flowers and we headed home after a fun day…… 🙂
And tomorrow we go back to getting ORGANIZED! (With a z and sometimes I say zed and sometimes zeee….. depending on if I am feeling Aussie or American…. )
Strange, it all looks quite flat and then you get into the big dunes, the shadows look quite beautiful, is it easy to get lost (you probably have a gps) when you’re walking in them?
How lucky to find those lovely blooms out there 🙂
Gorgeous photos of the dunes, Joy. Just imagine finding such perfect flowers out there !!!
Lovely to hear from you again, and see what you are doing.
