It is Ramadan again, the month of fasting. Each year it gets earlier and earlier because the Islamic calendar is shorter than the western one. This year it is a very, very hot one for everyone here…. no one is allowed to eat or drink in public during the day…. so everyone hangs out for the breaking of fast, or the “iftar” meal.
Like last year, DH’s work put on an Iftar for all the employees. It was at the same venue, but unlike last year the sky was not blue… in fact we could hardly see the tower until we were close by because of a big dust storm:
Last year you can see the sky was much clearer!
Inside it was pretty similar, except they had some strange lighting which has made the photos look a little weird!
Another big ice sculpture like last year… and food, food and more food…. I love the way some of it was presented… the seafood on ice:
With smaller (compared to the big one in the middle of the hall!) ice sculptures in the background:
This is how they served the parmesan cheese at the “Italian Station”:
The deserts looked pretty good too:
Oh, and the chocolate fountain was very popular with kids young and old!
We ate our fill… and a little extra… and now I think we need to fast tomorrow to make up for it, lol! Driving home at 8pm, we noticed the temperature was 43C….. just a little warm still!!
Ramadan Kareem!!!
Yummy!!! Can’t decide what is cooler–the ice sculptures or the chocolate fountain. I do believe I have seen that skyline a time or too!
That is amazing! Learning about other cultures must be interesting, but seeing I don’t like that sort of heat, not sure I’d like living there. I need to send you an email, so will try and do that today.
so lovely to see food presented like that …looks amazing …

Breathtaking ice sculptures! How fab is that seafood in an ice bowl!
But as Susan says, I’m not sure that I’d be up to those temps!
wow how do they keep that ice frozen when it is SOOOOOO hot outside…………hope it cools down for your soon and no dust storms………..
Looks yummy! We are as hot as I want to be and that is too hot!
43 sounds like a Summer day here in Western Australia, the ice sculptures are amazing. Thanks for sharing your photo’s.
Happy days.
Bev.
I’m heading off to Tunisia on Tuesday where I’ll experience Ramadam first hand… I am a little concerned though as I won’t be able to show any solidarity. Missing a meal and dehydration are both major migraine triggers for me. Just picture me standing in the toilet downing bottles of water!
