I am still recovering from my weekend in the desert…. I think I might be getting too old to go camping… do you think DH will think that is a valid excuse? Considering all the couples we went with last weekend were 10 years older than us… maybe he won’t…. 🙂
Anyway, when I go I always bring something along to stitch, either hexies or a stitchery. I do enjoy sitting around the campfire chatting and stitching…
Last week I traced out two stitcheries that DD Elizabeth drew for me. And then, of course, I realized I didn’t have any DMC with me. None. Nada. That was the same day I needed ties for my aprons, so off to the notions shop I went.
Now something I need to explain is that this is probably the last country in the world where women are not allowed to drive. So we need someone to take us. It costs a minimum of $20 a trip, therefore, when I do get someone to take me, I like to make the most of my taxi fare!
Which is why when I went to the notions shop I told the guys that I wanted one of each color of DMC that they had….
In case you are wondering, 402 DMC colors looks like this:
Aren’t they pretty?
And yes, it was a bit much to fork out in one go, but now I won’t need to go pay more taxi fares just to get DMC… It’s also a good thing I am teaching some classes soon so that I can recoup the money:)
On the weekend I decided to work on one of the unfinished aprons. I didn’t finish it last week because it is a very plain one and I wanted to do some chicken scratch on it.
As you can see both the apron and the thread I chose are very light. After working with bright pinwheels, I wanted something light and soothing…
That’s all I have done so far, and do you know what? I’ve nearly used the whole thing of floss… ugh… which means I will need to put it on the list so that next time I am in the neighborhood of the DMC shop I can get a replacement. I refuse to pay $20 to go and get one thread.
See why I bought the lot?
I didn’t get to starting on the stitcheries, but I chose the threads and will start winding them on cardboard in the evenings…
….and I will take them on a trip with me next weekend…… not telling you where yet… it’s a surprise 🙂 Suffice to say, the toilet will not look like this:
I do like real toilets….. instead of holes in the sand… don’t you?
Oh my goodness–that toilet is like back in ollllldddd days–and wagon trains and such!!! But at least it looks like you ‘covered’ it up when done!!!!
I did the same as you with my Comos thread back a few years ago–got the whole line–the main colors that have had to replace is the black, reds, white-
and this line is harder to find someone that carries the colors, it isn’t in the stores, but I like it better than dmc and had the money at the time–sooo–
love the apron–I remember doing the chicken scratch on things back in the day!!!
enjoy the moments, di
What fun to have every colour of the rainbow to play with! I tend to go through the red, black and white most quickly as well. Nowhere to buy thread here so I have to order online. At least I don’t have to pay someone to drive me. I don’t know if I could tolerate that rule.
Sounds like you have years of camping in you yet…..
Every colour really…… You better get stitching…….
I know I am too old for that toilet method!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Course I do have 10 years on you, but I will defend your choice to be too old for camping as any good BFF should!!!
Can’t say that I would like that hole in the sand either, and look forward to seeing what you do with ALL those threads!
No, I wouldn’t want that loo, even though we had one out back when I was a kid. Puts me off camping for life, though I’ve nearly 20 years on you(giggle).
All the colours, wow, that’s cool & as for chicken scratch, we had that on lots of aprons when I was little. Have a great time next weekend & take care.
Maybe you should have got more than one of each colour to save running out halfway through a project???? haha… thank you for the toilet picture…. I am so inspired now not to go camping in the desert…. not even a tree to hide behind….
