Pinwheels in the Dust

My pinwheels and I are back in dusty Arabia… and no I am not taking a picture of them in the dust, because they will get all icky and dirty… you will just have to imagine it. Suffice to say we came back from the Dead Sea to 37C at 7pm and a layer of dust on everything in the apartment.
After some essential dusting (Nina and my sewing table) I got my priorities right and worked on the companion block to the pinwheels… a white pintuck block….
Hmmmm, I thought I had taken a picture of them on their own, but it seems not. You can see them further down in this post laid out with the pinwheels.
After I finished 12 pintuck blocks, I got distracted with a UFO – one of the table runners I quilted before I left Oz. I looked at it and decided to turn it into two little bags instead…
As I said on Instagram, if they were bunnies, they would be lop eared… I think maybe I did the handles too long! But I like them anyway 🙂 So I finished one UFO… by turning it into two things.. I think it still only counts for one though!
This morning I got up bright, and not so early, to go to Nora’s. We sewed until 3pm and got lots done. Of course I took the pinwheels and pintucks… Here they are laid out on the shop floor (because mine was too dusty, remember):
By the way, I’ll be doing tutorials on both of these blocks soon, after I teach a class on them at Nora’s. Mostly so that I don’t forget how to do them 🙂
I took Nina with me and the two of us managed to sew all the blocks together:
And you’ll have to wait till the borders are on to see the whole quilt 🙂 I must say it is quite heavy with all the folded fabric in it.
I also worked on another quilt and forgot to take photos… next time… I guess it is good that I am too busy sewing to take photos, right?
Well, that’s all for now folks. I will leave you with a pic our last evening at the Dead Sea… and a kitty cat that came to say hello to us:
It looks lovely & is really different. You can sort of see how weighty it might be, even though we can’t feel it. Are you just going to put batting & backing, then quilt it down between the blocks? You couldn’t do much stitching on the actual blocks! Anyway, I think it is great & you’ve thought outside the box.
Have a good Easter & take care.
your pinwheels and pintucks looks great… unusual and i love the idea of 3D. I would most definitely count your UFO as 2 finishes….are you filling them with chocolate?
Hugz
You have dust, I have pollen. Most of it is on my truck and up my nose though. You really are bad, because I really am going to have to do one of those quilts. It’s gorgeous!!! You need to come for a sew day–or maybe a sew week???????????????????? I am off tomorrow so at least I can get a good amount done.
Hopefully!!!!!
loving the bags long handles are good as they can go on the shoulder. Quilt looks fantastic, re the dust a little dust never hurt anyone! The one problem with the sun it shows the dust up!
Love your pintucked blocks with the pinwheels, but you knew I would, didn’t you? Glad you enjoyed your time away.
Cute bags! What a lovely quilt this one will be when finished! Sorry about the dust. As Alice says we have horrid tree pollen and I also have dust on top of that!!!
The blocks looks good…… Dust.. Drives you nuts….. And people who don’t get dust storms don’t understand…..
Wow there looks like a lot of work went into those blocks! Cute bags too.
Very cute pinwheels and pintucks! I can’t wait to see the whole quilt. And the bags are darling.
