We had a fun day today at the shop! Nora set up a mini exhibition with quilts she and her assistant Dhell had made from ONE RULER… and one book 🙂
When I walked into the area where we usually sit and sew, I was so surprised! There were over 20 quilts hung on the walls and laid on the tables! First I thought she was having a sale… then I realized they were all from this book:
Sorry about the glare, I did try to get rid of it, but….
Now Nora gave me this book and the ruler last year when I went to visit… I hadn’t had time to look at it and I thought it looked pretty complicated, so I left it back in Oz…
Today we watched a video by the author of the book, Jodi Barrows, demonstrating how to use the ruler and even adapt it to other patterns.
It was amazing!!!
I am so glad that I will be heading back to Oz soon… and I can go play with my ruler and copy of the book!
Of course Jodi has a youtube channel that you can check out… and see this awesome technique for yourself…
Basically, it is an easy method to make quilts with flying geese and other triangle based blocks without cutting triangles! Very cool if you ask me.
Here are some more of the quilts at the shop today:
I’m really not sure which one was my favorite. I did suggest that Nora let us all choose one to take home…. but she didn’t, how sad is that? I mean, what is she going to do with all those quilts? Really?!
Now if you are wandering into a quilt shop in the near future, I would suggest you ask if they have the book and ruler in stock, and go buy it! Or buy it online… somewhere… because I think it would come in handy. Don’t worry, I’ll post some pics of when I play with it and what I make with it… soon….
Until then, hope you are sewing lots!
Dare I say this but you could always buy a new book and ruler to play now and when you get home send me yours and I’ll fix you up for them?
people are so clever to work things out like that…

I have that ruler and her first 2 books and made DD’s storm at sea quilt with it many years ago. Also a mini one to start with. Long story about that!!! I keep saying I’ll use it again, so maybe “a come over here for a few days” & we’ll play. Yeah? Love all those quilts hanging up. See you soon & take care.
wow gorgeous quilts Joy and i think thats a good idea for you all to take 1 home each, lol.xx
I need to hunt through my pile because that book sounds really familiar. Those quilts are gorgeous–if she changes her mind I will gladly take one. 😉
looks fascinating followed your link and watched a couple of videos not sure it is for me think HSTs with 2 squares is much quicker.Maybe if I could have play with it it might win me round but know no one that has the ruler Also looked on line but the ruler does not appear to be available in UK and the books on amazon are very expensive. Will check it out at FOQ in august
Gosh that is really amazing – I hadn’t heard of that book/technique before (and no, our shop doesn’t have the book!) so I’ll have to investigate some more! I would have been hard pushed topick a favourite – they’re all lovely!
