Crocheting a Granny Square Baby Jacket

I’ve been doing a bit of hooky this past week, with yarn I found here in Arabia.
I have no idea why they put “jeans” on it… it is 55% cotton and 45% something else called “Pac”:
I am guessing it must be polyester.. but not sure…. if only I could remember how to read Russian, then I might be able to figure it out. Any ideas anyone?
Anyway, it has quite a nice feel to it and I had recently seen this video on youtube on how to make a baby jacket from granny squares. I thought it was really cute and wanted to give it a go. So I bought two balls of each color and made a start…
I needed 12 squares and I used a 2.5 hook because my first test square was a bit holey… I was happier using the smaller hook even though the square ended up smaller.
I’ve been watching some online blogging webinars, so I hooked and sewed the squares together while I watched.
I do find that I am not as good as multitasking as I used to be… but I managed to get it all together, add a trim and then take it to the shop yesterday for a photo shoot…
Now it’s been a long time since I had a baby… almost 19 years actually, but looking at this I decided that it was more a doll size than a baby size! Or perfect for a premie! But it is still cute I think…
If I use the same yarn again I will just make a few extra rounds and make it bigger….
I left it with this doll… and yes, you can see that it was even too small to fit her!
In other news, me and my pink trolley bag are heading off on a plane in a few hours for a 2 month visit to Oz… I was planning to go end of May, but decided to go end of April instead 🙂 So I will be seeing some of you very soon!
