Oh my, what a fun day we had yesterday! Last Sunday Nora gave us a free class on Cathedral Windows… which I forgot to post about and it is too dark now to take a pic… another day… Anyway, I said I’d think of something for this week. We have some new ladies who are coming to the shop and are into crochet, so I went on Pinterest and found something really fun for us to do! For the sewing and quilting ladies – yoyos, and for the crochet ladies, crocheting around the yoyos!
We started the morning off by giving a demonstration of the Go! cutter, using the circle die to cut our yoyos. Then we showed the ladies how to make them by hand, or by using the Clover doo-dad. Some prefer the one, some the other. I personally just like doing it by hand without the template…
Then we started playing with thread and hooks. I partly followed this tutorial, at least the bit where it shows you to put a running thread around the yoyo to attach your crochet. Then we all did a round of double crochet in those stitches, and after that everyone played.
Here are some of the results…..
Sally’s:
Gill’s:
Noura’s:
Lindi’s:
A few of the ladies went home and made some more! Gill made this pretty one:
And Lindi made this Christmas one at home:
I think Lindi is going to make a bunch more of these, isn’t it a great idea for quick and easy Christmas gifts?
While we were yoyo-ing, Jeanette was making a quilt label using Fabrico markers:
And Nora was doing some crochet:
Me? Yes, I managed to get one done too:
It was a fun and productive morning! Now to see who gets addicted to making these and who doesn’t
Have you ever made any?
(Oh, if you want more inspiration check out my YOYOs board on Pinterest!)
Pretty!!!!! You know which one I really like! It’s a good thing that I don’t know how to crochet!!
I just finished a yo yo project, and I’m currently working on another (UFO). I never thought to crochet around them. I may have to try this. And I couldn’t do it without my very clever Clever yo yo makers!!
These look so fun to make and pretty
Hope you are doing well, friend.
Well done ladies & that is certainly killing 2 birds with 1 stone, as the saying goes. Take care.
what fun…. they would be lovely as Christmas decorations on a tree…. I have made yo-yo’s but only a few…
