First stop in Holland – the market! We went to a nearby town called Barneveld where it was market day.. a small one, but it had everything we “needed”!
A Dutch market differs from an Aussie one in a few ways…. the most obvious is this:
DD said she’d never seen so much cheese in her life!
Sooo yummy…..!!
There is always a fish stall.. literally translated they are called “fish farmers”.. and this is where we bought salty herring with onions (sorry forgot to take a pic, next time!). You also get smoked eel and other yummies 🙂
This stall brought back memories:
When I was a teenager I did a dressmaking course, and bought my fabric from the market because it was much cheaper than the fabric shops. This stall has all the notions and the fabric at the end.. not quilting fabric though. Would you believe I didn’t buy a thing from here?!
There’s usually a few bakery stalls…
See the baby on the front of the bike? You’ll see lots of bikes in my pics this month!
There were sweet yummies at the baker:
And savory as well….
A bit like Baker’s Delight in Oz….
There were some lovely plant stalls as well.. aren’t these gorgeous? Pity I can’t take them back to Arabia with me…
And of course there’s got to be bulbs for sale at a Dutch market 🙂 The man said I was allowed to buy as well as take pictures!! Don’t think bulbs are much use in my apartment in Arabia!
Well, there were plenty more stalls, but that gives you a bit of an overview. I found out later that there was a yarn shop at Barneveld, so we will have to go back for a visit since I need to buy some for my yoyos… I think we’ll try to plan that trip on the next market day 🙂
I’m drooling over the cheese stall. That is the reason that I will never be a skinny mini. Looks like a fun day out. Garion misses Baker’s Delight and Crusty’s. I am still trying to make the perfect meat pie for him.
Omg all that cheese…..
Very different to an Aussie market – I’d love to get my hands on some of those cheeses.
thanks for showing us.
Basically, we just don’t get Markets like that out here & definitely not on a weekly basis as they do in UK. Hope your weather is nice, as it wasn’t supposed to rain in Gippsland today & it’s 7.20am & guess what? It’s raining!!
Enjoy & take care. DD, I’ve never seen so much cheese either, except in a cheese factory (giggle).
Fun market day…. I would be taste testing cheese all day…
Hugz
Goodness such a lot of cheese. The market looks really good. Hugs, xx
I would love to spend a day (or 2) in a market like that! So much awesomeness.
What fun – and interesting to see all the stalls.gosh, that is a lot of cheese 🙂
Looks like a wonderful outing! The cheese and bread are what attract me, although I don’t think I would have got past that sewing notions stall without buying anything!
Oh yum, all that cheese! Have a wonderful time Joy!
All that beautiful thread, and not one spool went home with you? LOL I would have bought several bulbs to put into pots for my apartment, house or deck or whatever you have in Arabia. Bulbs are small and do well in pots. It looks like you had a great day, though, and I’m betting SOME cheese went home with you!
