We had one sewing day in Germany… and although I didn’t do any sewing on the machine, Elke got a lot done 🙂
When I was here two years ago, I was doing some hexies… and showed Elke how to make them too. Two years later mine are still floating around somewhere, unfinished, while hers are in a quilt 🙂
I love the way she put the blocks together with most of the blocks having a partial hexie in the corners matching the sashing…
Since I was here last, she got a new machine:
You all know how much I love Bernina! The 350 is a great little machine!
This is the fabric we bought the day before:
… chosen for this project from Missouri Quilts.
We started with the Dresdens… did lots of chain sewing…
And ended up with three beautiful Dresden plates for the flowers:
I mostly watched while Elke did all the hard work, but I did play around a bit with my yoyos yesterday… this is how they are looking so far:
Getting there!
Yesterday we went out to another lovely little German town, so no sewing done… which means I won’t get to see Elke’s project finished, but I am sure she will send me a pic when it is done. I am quite tempted to make something similar to that because I bought the same feature fabric. It will remind me of our short visit…
Today we took the train back to Holland.. hopefully next time we’re in Germany a bit longer!
Tomorrow we are going to check out one of the Universities in Rotterdam to see if DD can study there next year… more pics to come!
What a neat idea for the hexie blocks–
and I also like those fabrics you purchased and new Dresden plate blocks she made–and your yo-yo’s are really pretty!! are you using yarn or crochet cotton on them???
enjoy the moments, di
Gorgeous hexie quilt. The Dresden blocks look beautiful. Love your yo yo’s. Hugs,xx
Neat idea for the hexies. I ‘think’ about a dresden quilt, but it’s always on hold. Maybe next year. What are the yo=yos going to be? Safe travels & take care.
Your friends hexie quilt is lovely! I love the Dresdens too. Your crocheting is beautiful……so pretty xx
How lovely that you are able to share our quilty love and skills with your aunt.. her hexie quilt is really lovely – unique corners to the blocks which look so good…and already the dresdens are looking beautiful. Your yo-yos are growing well!
I love the way Elke framed the hexie flowers. So creative. The Dresden blocks will be pretty as well. I look forward to seeing the flowers once she adds the centres.
Your blocks are cute and I like your friend’s quilt too. You are really having a wonderful time 🙂
you had a busy day and how fun …. your yo-yo’s are growing…
