Now you all know that I am a Bernina girl…. and here I am writing a post about a Janome!! Yes, I have been under the weather, but no, I have not gone crazy and bought a Janome… but one of my beginners has, and I thought I’d share her joy with you!
It happens to me all the time – my beginners turn up with a cheap machine and we spend half our time trying to get the tension right and the machine working. I tell them they need a better machine.. and of course they ask me which one?
Good question!
I of course say Bernina 🙂 But knowing that not everyone can afford a Bernina, my second suggestion is Janome. Those two are also the ones we can get parts and service for here… back in Australia there are way more machines to chose from…. which possibly makes the decision even harder.
So two of my beginners had been researching prices and asking around for second hand ones… and both of them scored last week! One of them got a second hand Bernina, and the other got a second hand Janome! Both got very good deals and I am so happy for them (and slightly jealous!)
I was there for the unboxing of the Janome…
The box said it was the 7700 QCP….
But when we got it out, we saw that it was a higher model – the 8900 QCP, even better!
Sooo many stitches to choose from!
It also came with the extension table…
And it didn’t take long for it to be set up on the table to test…
Now if I were to buy a Janome… this is the model I would buy. It sews beautifully, and her new owner is very happy with it!
So, I’d like to know… are you brand loyal? What is your favorite brand? Or favorite brands?
How exciting for your beginners! You can’t beat having a decent machine, I think some beginners would find the craft of sewing so much easier if they started off with a slightly better quality machine…second hand is a good option.
How exciting for the beginners. I’m slightly jealous also. 🙂 Yes if possible it’s better to buy the better quality machine to begin with. Hugs,xx
I think I would love a Bernina – but through a combination of events it seems I am a janome girl – and I am loving my latest model. It has been said that Janomes are the “toyotas” of the sewing machine world – long lasting – good quality and value for money. I am sure your beginner will love it.
I have stuck with Janome……..when I had not long brought my first machine I went into the Bernina shop that also had fabric and said I was just getting into some sewing had not done much since I left school and then he asked what machine did I have and I said Janome and he proceeded to tell me that I had brought the wrong machine and I felt terrible and insulted………..big mistake by him and I walked out and never brought all the fabric I was buying for clothing and never went back…….I think this is why I am still not a Bernina fan…………..I will never forget that day………
I have stuck with Janome and own 4 sewing machines and an overlocker as I never do much to them and they work perfectly……….all the feet interchange with the machines so cost was kept down not having to buy yet another walking foot etc…………I have stayed brand loyal but feel there would only be a couple of brands that I would consider anyway…………….IF I wanted to get a new machine I may look around but probably stick with Janome………..
plus I have friends with the same bigger machine so if I needed help they could give it…………..in turn quite a few friends have got new machines and sought advice from me and all brought Janomes…………..
The other point to consider is what is available near by………….If you only have one brand of dealer and they provide a good service then that is pretty valuable too…………
Hi Joy I am so pleased for your 2 friends how exciting for them.
I am a Bernina girl, love my machine, hope your friends have lots of fun on their machines xx
I have a Janome Atelier 5 which is pretty similar to that machine. I absolutely love it and I’m definitely a Janome girl now! My previous machine was a Husqvarna but I had so many problems with it, as did every other Husqvarna owner i know, that I would never go back. Berninas are just ridiculously priced over here. I bought my Janome at a show so went to the Bernina stand too. The lowest spec machine with a larger harp space was twice as expensive as the equivalent Janome!
I have two Husqvarnas, and both are ok machines that I have had no trouble with. However, the one time that I had cause to contact the parent company about one of their “stores of the year” that was engaging in blatant illegal consumer practices proved that Husqvarna is ethically bankrupt and turns a blind eye to such things. Not a shred of customer service or concern to behold. Needless to say, regardless of the performance of their machines I will be switching brands when I am next in the market. In the meantime I am so very careful not to show any of their branding on my blog. So, I am currently anything but brand loyal and like to hear what people think about other options. Thanks Joy.
