A Trip Down Memory Lane

As I haven’t been so well the past week, I thought I’d sit in my little corner, drink tea and sort out some of the photos on my computer. I have decided that I would need at least a month of sitting in my little corner drinking tea to get any semblance of order in them…. this is the problem with digital photos… photos from different cameras, different phones = a huge big mess.
But I did come across some fun photos.. and great memories… I thought I’d share some of when I started my quilting journey…
As most of you know, Alice and I learned how to quilt in Arabia… back then we were pretty busy already, homeschooling our kids. We used to get together regularly to do art and science projects…
Alice was the brains behind all things sciencey… hence the volocanos…
We’d also give the kids their schoolwork while we sewed in the next room….
Mostly it worked well 🙂
We had quilt classes upstairs in the main recreation building on the compound we lived in… while the kids did their school in the next room or had “recess” outside…
Yes, we were keeping a good eye on them 🙂
The room we had our quilt classes in had a nice big clean floor to pin quilts:
Mum and Dad even came to visit us at that time.. I managed to convince Mum to make a colorwash heart… but she lost interest and Dad finished it off….
It was fun while it lasted! Sadly Alice had to leave… she left her man and her cat behind to pack up the house…
The photo above is a pic of “before” 3 men tried to get Murphy into the cat carrier… I could write a whole post on that!
We made Alice a goodbye quilt…
Now to think that red haired kid is going to graduate from Uni in three weeks… where did the time go?
Those were the days my friends, we thought they’d never end…
Your turn Alice – do you have pics of us quilting back then? I don’t seem to have that many…
I was going thru some older pics last night…………….oh the memories and yes I need about a month to sort my photos too………….maybe longer…………..
Hi Joy i loved this post ,i really enjoyed your story, lovely pic of your dad,i didnt realize that you had lived over in Saudi for that long, hope you have a lovely day my friend xx
Oh my goodness!! OK, challenge taken. I can’t hide in a corner with my tea until next week, but I will definitely work on it. All of the goodies you made me are in my sewing room waiting to figure out if I have a wall under all of the shelving. I may have to just take over the whole house. And thanks for the giggles–how many men does it take to put a poor little kitty into a cat carrier?
Fun to look back… has your sewing /quilting style changed?
Hugz
Love the story and the photos and sorry you are not feeling well!!! and yes it can take more than 3 grown men to put some cats in carriers!!! been there done that–or rather tried too!!!
and I know what you mean about photo files on the computer–I have thousands on here–of quilting, trips, nature,–it seems I can take the same photo of squirrels eating seeds everyday and still have to take more-and each one is different–the size of the squirrel, or the way he looks eating, something is always different–but what to do with them???? my quilting history though is on my blog posts and I also have another site where at the end of each month I post what I worked on that month–so I have a quick reference–been doing that now for 5-6 years–
take care and get better–your stitching is calling you!!
enjoy the moments, di
Good to go down memory lane sometimes isn’t it? And I need a long time to sort all my photos as well, although the quilting ones are mostly on the blog, but the family ones, that’s another story! Hope you feel better soon.
Happy memories!
I understand about all the photos – mainly with stupid names – Love the Aussie quilt too – what a great idea.
Its lovely to wander down memory lane. Thanks for sharing. Hope you feel better soon Joy xx
Sorry to hear you have still been under the weather Joy. Hope you are feeling better to fly! I love the pic of your Dad, it is adorable – both the picture and what he’s doing. And the Aussie quilt is great too. xx
Interesting to read about your previous life! I have far too many photos that need attention – and now I want to get my old ‘negative’ photos into digital format too, if I can find the right gadget to do so! Hope you are feeling better now.
