Welcome to the 6th Day of Last Minute Christmas Gifts! Today’s tutorial is one by Ayumi at Pink Penguin! These make great gifts, and I have made so many of them over the years.. they are cute little Fabric Baskets!
I have made heaps of these to sell at craft markets. I emailed Ayumi and got her permission to do this, and I sent her some Aussie fabric as a thank you… since then, she started selling a pattern with the “rights” to make and sell this basket.. but I can’t find the link to it now and it looks like her shop has shut down.. in any case, you can certainly still make these as gifts.
Here’s one I made for my sister back in 2009 to match stockings I made for her the year before…
This is one Alice made when I was visiting her in Perth.. it was a prize for a giveaway..
So you see it is cute in any fabric…
I usually sew more than one at a time… of course…
I just do them all step by step…
And end up with a bunch for the market or to give away…
These are also very addictive.. and as you can see above, I also adapt them a bit and use strips instead of squares – they’re done a lot faster that way… they are also great to use up scraps..
You can find the tutorial to make these fabric baskets here...
And if you have a bit more time, there are some really cute free stitcheries that you can make to put in between the squares above… go here to download them.
Have you made any of these baskets before?
PS The main page of this series is here along with links to each post for this series.
can never have too many baskets!

I’ve made so many fabric baskets over the years. And they’ve been received well when I’ve given them as gifts.
Oh I’ve made quite a few of these baskets….
I’ve made fabric baskets/holders for both myself & as gifts over the years.
Must make some soon & something else I’ve just thought of. Whoops!
I will be in touch some time this week. Take care.
Love the fabric basket. I need to make one for my scraps in the sewing room.
