Welcome to the 10th Day of Last Minute Christmas Gifts! Here’s another quick last minute gift.. you can make up a set of these Folded Charm Coasters in no time!
You’ve probably seen these coasters all over the internet – folding charm squares together to make a coaster.. or a mug rug, depending on what you call it:
I’ve made a heap myself, including some for our Pink Day back in October… and when I was making them, I had a sudden thought… why couldn’t I make them a little bit different:
Maybe I am not the only one who had this sudden thought.. and for all I know there is another tutorial for one like this out there… I don’t know, because I haven’t googled it..
Instead, I used the leftover charms from the Soup Bowl Cozies to write this tutorial…
What you need to make a Folded Charm Coaster ~ With a Twist:
5 charm squares
One 5″ square of batting
Folded Charm Coaster Step 1
Choose one charm square for the backing and press the other four in half on the diagonal:
Folded Charm Coaster Step 2
Start layering… first the batting, then the backing, right side up….
Then the first triangle…
Next one:
Next…
The 4th one needs to go on top of the 3rd and under the 1st:
Till it is all sitting like this:
Pin all the layers together in the middle:
Folded Charm Coaster Step 3
Time to sew… stitch all around the edges:
Folded Charm Coaster Step 4
Cut the corners off:
Folded Charm Coaster Step 5
Turn it inside out! I used scissors, but you can use your favorite pointy-turning-out-thingo:
Folded Charm Coaster Step 6
Press:
Make it nice and flat:
Folded Charm Coaster Step 7
Make a cuppa and pop your coaster under the cuppa while you make some more:
How easy is that?
You can top stitch the coasters if you like, but I didn’t….
Now, shall I give them away or keep them…?

You aren’t going to believe this one–
a couple years ago a blogger sent me 2 of these–one is Christmas and one is for the rest of the year-and I do use them both–the difference is they are hexie shaped–and just last night I was looking at the Christmas one and trying to figure out how she made it to make some more!!!
so guess what I will be doing later–
thank you thank you—
enjoy the moments, di
I love both versions. Can you stitch in the center so the batting doesn’t show?
Well done you. That is one I should definitely make. Thanks & take care.
Oh that is so simple and so brilliant! I haven’t seen that trick before. I’ll be trying this one!
Those are so clever…..and pretty… and use up bits of left over wadding!

Love this twist on the classic folded coasters!
