I ignored my “packing” and ventured out of the apartment today, because Nora was having a “Welcome to 2018 Brunch” at the Shop…
While we were all on holidays she had been rearranging the place… including moving her Gammill upstairs and setting up an extra classroom downstairs with 7 new Janome sewing machines:
These machines are going to be for ladies to rent, or for making items to sell…
It’s the first time I saw this machine, the Janome 1600P – it is a heavy duty machine, almost like an industrial… and goes like a rocket. It is going to be great for production line sewing of bags, table runners, quilts, and other things for markets… and I love the table that comes with it… for a Bernina lady, I am very drawn to this machine!!
It doesn’t just do straight lines though, it also apparently does free motion really well, and would make an ideal mid-arm sit-down free motion quilting machine…. Hmmmm….. since I don’t have Emmie G with me in Arabia… I wonder….. 🙂
No.
I am not buying one.
Really.
I will just use Nora’s while I am still here 🙂
She also brought in some smaller machines for the ladies to buy, basic ones but still with knee lifts, needle threaders and a few other handy features…
This is going to be great for our beginners.. who have been struggling with very basic machines… oh.. and the quilt behind it is pretty too, isn’t it 🙂
Actually Nora had a bunch of new quilts hanging up… she likes to “hide” things and then bring them out to impress us…
I actually had trouble taking pics, sorry about that.. you get the idea though.. the one on the right is made with a 10 Degree Wedge Ruler… and Nora will be doing a class on it soon…..
Actually most of the quilts were with black, and that made it hard to take pics.. this pic turned out reasonable..
I’m going to have to go back with my “real” camera and take some more photos, rather than on my mobile phone..
Here’s a quilt as you go double sided table runner, and a baby puff quilt:
It was a lovely morning, and guess what? I DIDN’T BUY ANY FABRIC!
Aren’t you proud of me?
But… this afternoon I did buy something… more about that in the next post…
What a fun idea, to have a welcome to 2018 brunch! Good on you not buying anything oh whoops, sounds like you did! Nora has some lovely shop samples – it sounds like she’s been very busy.

Great way to welcome 2018. Lovely inspiration from those beautiful quilts xx
I have a 1600P on a frame………I need to stop being scared and just get into using it………….
Seems you are feeling better & settling in again. No fabric – Wow!
Nora has some lovely quilts & that black & white one is similar to one I made for a wedding present. Take care.
Lovely set up in the shop and lots to tempt…
