We had a fun morning yesterday making Star Quilts! And yes, all my students were stars too!
I had 6 ladies booked for the class, but three couldn’t make it, so we had a nice little group. Sometimes it is better when your class sizes are small, you can give your students a bit of extra attention.
Nora got some new wooden partitions a few weeks ago… and they are perfect for hanging samples…
We found a bit of black backing that made a good design wall… 🙂 I think we need to cover the whole thing with felt or something, I will discuss it with the boss!
Two of the ladies were new and I really enjoyed meeting them. One came from the Eastern side of Arabia, here visiting family. She only had her hand sewing with her, so I let her use Bella – so see, Bella has come in handy already!
All the ladies chose different colors… one was in a mood for Autumn colors and chose these pretty batiks:
Another went for a darker background fabric, and I love the effect it has:
On Thursday we’ll be adding borders, so I’ll give you an updated pic!
And I just love these fabrics… so much so that I might need to buy some myself…. (ha!):
Aren’t they all great?
One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is seeing the fabric choices people make. It always amazes me how the same pattern can look so good in so many different color choices!
Another thing I enjoy about teaching is making new friends… it was a lovely morning and I will miss being able to teach at Nora’s…
Remind me to tell you the story about pins and flying needles…. another day….
Those are big stars! And I agree, it’s always fun to see the same pattern made up with different fabrics.
Well done to students and teacher. Look forward to hearing about the “pins ‘n’ needles”. Take care.
A great “starter” project – well done students.
Well done ladies. The stars look wonderful. Hugs,xx
those big piece star quilts are so effective….. must have been such fun seeing what everybody did…
Hugz
I love those big stars. I always like to see other people’s fabric choices too and especially in the finished block or pattern. They all look so different.
Well–I for one can’t wait to hear the story about flying needles!! I am always losing mine to the floor–so mine just “jump”–!!!!
And yes what a difference each star is–great sewing and great teaching going on at Nora’s–she is gonna miss you–again!!!
enjoy, di
Looks like a great class Joy and I bet the ladies really enjoyed the (almost) one- on- one attention!
They are wonderful! They did such a great job.
That’s a big star. They all look great – and I agree, it’s interesting to see how they look in different fabrics.
Goodness, I didn’t expect those stars to be that big! I like them, and your students did a great job. I have never taught, but I have certainly liked checking out the fabric choices of fellow students in classes I have been to.
