A Couple of Finishes!

Phew.. I finally managed to sew… and I got a couple of finishes – no, not UFOs yet, but I am hoping I will still manage some before the end of the month…
Yes, our shopping trip that I mentioned in my last post did include the purchase of a chair:
It is sooooo much better being the right height!!
On the way to buying the chair, we went past Classic Quilts and I bought three meters of white fabric, and another little “Barbie Cupboard” for my Bernina stuff:
Now I can finish the table runners… and start cutting for the Regatta Sew-a-long… Good thing the latter is a “no pressure” sew-a-long because I am sure I am way behind everyone else!
But before I worked on either of those I decided to be a good girl and FINISH the Pink Penguin baskets I started so that they wouldn’t become UFOs…
I’ve discovered the bed is a great place to cut things out… I haven’t cut the sheets yet, however I do think it might be a good idea to go back to the quilt shop and buy the bigger cutting mat – to protect the bed… The bed is also a great place to sit your tea tray…
The batting I bought the other day was Hobbs brand, one I have never worked with before. I am sorry to say I do not like it… I am so used to my beloved Warm & Natural… this stuff was much thinner than what I am used to. I usually use one layer, but for these baskets I needed two…
I NEED to get some of the Warm and Natural in by hook or by crook… I was going to buy a roll from the shop that used to supply mine, but it was a four hour drive away from where we lived in Arabia and we didn’t get a chance to go… I am now going to contact them and see if they can send me a roll.. because I NEED it…
Anyway, I managed with the two layers, but I am thinking for a quilt it is very thin… does anyone else use this brand of 100% cotton batting?
So far my little sewing corner is working quite well (now that I have a higher chair!). I like the ironing board next to me and enjoy glancing at the view…
By the time the sun went down and all the pretty lights came on I had finished the baskets….
One I put to use right away….
The other I will put away for Christmas and will count for my 1 Christmas Item done for this month! Yay!
I’ve got nothing planned for tomorrow except sewing!! Yes, on UFOs…
Till next time,
PS I’m linking up to Finish it Friday , NTT & Whoop Whoop!
Love your baskets. Sew pretty. Hugs,xx
Hi Joy ,oh i love your two new baskets and i am so glad that you got yourself a new chair and wow look at your view, when will you be back this way my friend ? xx
I have been wanting to make one of those baskets! If I put my tea on the bed I would be sure to spill it! My friend gets a roll of that Warm and Natural Batting. That is the way to go but I think a large roll would be too much for me to store. I should look into seeing if I could get a smaller amount. She gave me a little of hers and I really liked it. Glad you are organized to sew now! Have fun! Nancy
Lovely view, and nice chair, a convenient comfortable sewing area will have you churning out UFO’s in record time.
Love the colour scheme of the baskets!!!!! Glad you’ve found a chair the right height as there’s nothing worse than a sore back!! Happy sewing.
Cute baskets…… Nice view….
Pretty little baskets!
Congrats on finishing. You know I love those baskets!! Warm & Natural is my favorite too. I need to unroll some more and get busy!!!
Well done onmaking the best of your space – it brings to mind, where there’s a will there’s a way! Cute little baskets 🙂
Good to have a finish under your belt in the new sewing space. Chair looks comfy & I’m waiting for OT to find a good chair for me, hopefully this week before granddaughter J arrives from UK to stay with us for a while. Have a good week & take care.
You are doing well remodelling the house to suit your sewing and adapting. Love your little baskets… so useful…
Hugz
