I just got back from visiting family… I stayed with my cousin, who took me to some of the local op shops – and did we have fun!
Well, I did at least 🙂 I think he enjoyed watching me fill up my basket and wondering how I was going to take it all back home in the suitcase!!
One of the first things I saw when I went into the first op shop was this:
I would have loved to buy that.. but we both decided it would definitely not fit in the suitcase…
This was very tempting:
It was in very good condition.. but no.. it wouldn’t fit in either…
Nor would this one:
I had never heard of a “Lewenstein” machine, but is seems not only are there old ones, but there are brand new ones available too…
So, having established that I would have loved to buy all of the above, what did I actually buy in the end?
First of all I found a table cloth with these embroideries on each corner:
It needs a wash and an iron, and then I can chop it up to go into a quilt like this…
I also found this… I think it is a sheet? Not sure.. the embroidery is only down one end:
It has two repeats of that lady, so again… it will get chopped up 🙂
Just for fun, I bought some of these comic books I used to love as a kid:
AND I scored this:
Quite pleased with that one!
Other odds and ends ended up in a basket I could not resist…
What is happening with the basket you might ask?
Well, currently it is packed in my suitcase….. How? I decided to dismantle it….
And I am planning on putting it back together again when I get home next week….. I’ll keep you posted on how that works 🙂
My suitcase is currently at 27 kilos… (30kg allowed) I’d better not do any more op shopping… 🙂
Your post made me smile. Those embroideries were good finds, I look forward to seeing what you make with those. Safe travels. xx
Joy, what a fun shopping trip!! LOVE the seeing basket. That would have been very difficult to leave. AND the machines. I’ve been itching for a new one.
The embroidered things will make a beautiful quilt. I am looking forward to seeing it after you are done! I love the sewing basket. I think I would have taken that back on my lap! LOL What fun! Nancy
Such treasures! I’m glad you were able to fit at least some of them in your suitcase. Will be watching to see what you do with everything!
Look forward to seeing how you put the basket handle back on, and whatever you make with the embroideries. And you said my “to do” list was long!!
What a shame you had to leave the machines behind…but the embroideries will work well for you.
Seems a shame the sewing basket & machines had to be left behind. 😊😊. Love the goodies you did buy. Hugs, xx
I so enjoy your posts. You make your shopping trips an adventure. I don’t think I could have resisted that beautiful sewing basket. Airlines are so picky. Probably would have been to big to be considered a purse even if the legs could have temporarily been removed.
Great finds! That must have been hard leaving the others. Loved the sewing basket at the beginning!
What fun, what great finds. X
You can still go to a op shop–you still have a bit of wiggle room there for another treasure or two!!!! Love the treasures you did find–I love tulips and I love to collect those embroidered ladies on things too!!
enjoy, di
Ooh, you naughty girl, but how could you leave that top one. I also thought the old machine was just gorgeous. Would love to be a fly on the wall watching you put the basket back together & hope we see you use the book for some of the fabric you’ve got over there with you. Will you cut up the embroideries to make something? I was looking at a crinoline lady pattern book, only yesterday. Think I may have liked that shop too. Have a good week & take care.
Fun in the op shop….. the basket will be lovely even without the handle. I did love the sewing basket that sits on the ground…
Hugz
Such discipline Joy, I’m impressed! xx
What great finds you got at the op shop.
The embroideries are lovely-what a great addition-or starring role-they will have in a quilt.
Hope you are able to put the basket back together.
Hee hee hee! I bet if you tried hard enough, you could have gotten a sewing machine or two in your suitcase. I like what you did buy.
What fun. We tend to buy our souvenirs in op shops as well. I think the oddest was an iron on transfer with the Isle of Man symbol of 3 legs. 🇮🇲 When we were there one time.
Sounds like you had fun, and have some good projects planned. What a shame some of the goodies wouldn’t’ve fitted…!
