I’m afraid you’re all going to have to put up with more than one post a day during this trip because there is just so much to blog about…
Our hotel is very close to the Brooklyn Bridge.. so after brecky yesterday we walked over there… oh, our hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, so we’ve been going to little places around here for our meals.. for brecky we found this little patisserie:
We’ve been enjoying their croissants- some of the best I have tasted!
So, after brecky, we headed in the right general direction towards the bridge…
First we found City Hall…
It was well guarded and I said to DH that it was a bit like Buckingham Palace… whereupon one of the guards said – oh no, it’s nowhere near as good! They were very friendly and we had a bit of a chat with them…
Around city hall there was a lot of action, including this now familiar sight on New York streets:
DH tried the hot dogs.. and I had a cheese pretzel 🙂
There is a long walkway in the middle of the road to get to the bridge.. and lots of people with little stalls set up along the way….
Some interesting signs on this one:
It was a fair way to walk, and there were lots of people – not quite as many as the Empire State Building thankfully!
I managed to get a lot of photos without too many people in them though so it doesn’t look as busy as it was.
The first part of the walkway was concrete which then changed to wooden boards closer to the bridge…
Almost there…
Ah.. finally…. at the top and looking back to where we walked up…
There were some info plaques that told us a bit more about the history which was interesting…
The view was great… here we are looking out on Manhattan Bridge…
And on the other side, far, far in the distance is the Statue of Liberty…
That is as close as I got to the Lovely Lady because I don’t do boats and ferries…
Looking down between the boards is the East River….
I got a few funny looks from people taking that picture 🙂
And another funny one…
There were some more locks along the bridge, but certainly not like the bridges I’ve seen in Europe. If you don’t know about locks on bridges you can read about it here…
And that my dear friends was the Brooklyn Bridge…. Next up, the 9/11 Memorial…
Loving your posts, keep them coming, and don’t apologise for more than one post a day, but you do realise that we will keep expecting more than one a day!!?
Lucky you! I love NYC and the Brooklyn Bridge, but haven’t been there in awhile. Where else are you going in the US?
Joy, your posts are a delight. You are giving us jaded Americans a fresh view of our country. Can’t wait for your next stop!
