After all that quilty goodness we stepped back in time with a day in Colonial Williamsburg…
Very similar to Sovereign Hill, it was a really interesting insight into American History.. just before the revolution. We started at the Governor’s Palace…
It is a reconstruction of the original that burned down…. they managed to find the original tiles of the mantelpiece still intact under the rubble…
We took a guided tour which made it all make more sense 🙂
Here are some of the inside pics…
Governor’s Palace from the back garden…
The streets of Williamsburg were very wide, as they were way back then…
Nearly all of the houses are also reconstructed…
I was very intrigued by the fencing..
The other main building we took an official tour of was the Capitol building…
Also very interesting.. it burned down two or three times before they decided to move the capital to Richmond…
Like Sovereign Hill there were lots of displays where people were showing the old skills, like in this woodwork shop:
And the lumber yard where the guys were hard at work…
In amongst all that hard work, this little guy didn’t have a care in the world…
I spent quite a while watching him jumping in and out of the ivy looking for nuts…
There was lots of quilt inspiration there as well, but that will have to wait for the next post…
