Oh my, I realized that in all the fun of going on my little quilting retreat with Nina, I forgot to tell you that I had the honor of guest posting over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict!
It was such a privilege to share a bit more about my life in Arabia and the way our quilt groups worked together on charity quilts. You can read my guest post here.
The whole idea of the H2H challenge is of course to make some quilts to donate to charity. I was hoping to get two done… and I have!
Well, almost 🙂
They are flimsies because when I go back to Oz next month I will quilt them on Emmie G and then donate them…. I am planning on donating them to one of our local nursing homes. A few years ago our little quilting group in Australia made a whole heap and donated them, and the residents really appreciated them. They brightened up their rooms and they were also able to use them as lap quilts in the winter… so that is the plan 🙂
The first flimsy is one you have already seen, one of my star quilts (Tutorial Here!):
The main patterned fabric is actually “tea” fabric, so hopefully it will go to one of the residents of the nursing home that loves tea 🙂
The other top I have finished and ready to put in my suitcase was a UFO….
It started out as just fence rail blocks.. with some corner triangles…. who knows what the original pattern was – all I know is that I started sometime around 2006… !! I had “finished” one block 🙂
I had enough blocks to make the 9 block center,
and then only had a little bit of blue left to make a 1 inch border around it. The second border is 6″ – an attempt to make it a bit bigger!
I am pretty happy with how it turned out!
So, two flimsies to go in the suitcase and finish next month…
Thank you Sarah for hosting this challenge! I think so far more than 250 quilts have been made and donated, which is pretty amazing isn’t it? You can see more of the quilts that were made in the linkup over here!
Oh and don’t forget to read my guest post on Sarah’s blog over here!
In Other News…..
Some of you have been asking when I am going “home” ie Australia, and the answer is… um… soon.. maybe in a couple of weeks? I hope!!
A few days ago I got my passport stamped with my UAE residency and now I am waiting to get my ID card. After I get that, I will be booking flights… In the meantime, I will keep sewing 🙂
PS I’m linking up to H2H Link Up & Show Off!!
Your quilts are beautiful, Joy! And thank you for your wonderful guest blog post. Can I ask you a question? Why do Aussies call Australia Oz? I’ve always wondered….
Love your flimsies. I’m sure they’ll be well loved in their new homes. Hugs,xx
Hi Joy! You are an inspiration! Congratulations on being a guest blogger. I have saved your post on how to machine bind a quilt. When we went to AZ the quilters did quilts for others. I did go down one day and machine stitched a baby quilt as they were doing those. I didn’t really know what I was doing but the lady next to me was very encouraging. The quilt guild about 20 minutes from me makes quilts for others too. I don’t belong but a couple of my friends do. Right now I am hoping for enough energy and time to practice duets with a friend to play at a nursing home in July and some in the church foyer between services. I have two doctors appointments coming up in June so maybe they can figure out my fatigue. I have been spending my time in my garden courtyard and making birthday cards and cloth book marks to include in them. Will be glad to get back at my quilts! Have a great week-end! Memorial Day week-end for us so some of the family will be over. Nancy
Hi Joy well done my friend they both look amazing and will be very much loved xx
Great work & I have a little one I’d love to donate for a child, so will have to look into that. My lovely blogpal Joanna, who has been absent for the last 12 months, has just posted about H2H too. I’m so glad she’s blogging again & her 2 quilts were lovely & are going to chemo patients in USA. Can’t wait to see you back in Oz. Take care.
So happy you will be back Down Under soon – looking forward to that! Congrats on your guest post. xx
OOOOOH! You’re famous! When (if) you ever settle in one spot, you will be unstoppable.
I love both quilts. I have one of the stars started somewhere and I am pretty sure I need to make one of the others. Those simple blocks really turned into a cool quilt. I know their new owners will be thrilled!
