On our quest to reach 120 hours of driving for DS, we made many a day trip back and forth between Ballarat and Hamilton… I love stopping at the small country towns and seeing what some of the little gift and craft shops hold.
One of the shops I dropped in on was in the town of Dunkeld, which is at the foot of the Grampians:
In the summer it gets lots of tourists, and there are plenty of information signs that give you a bit of the town history…
I do enjoy taking the time to read and look at the old photos… We did stop for lunch one day at the above cafe… and while DS was finishing his lunch, I went across the road to this little shop called “Only Ewe”:
As you can see by the sign, they sell Australian made wool products, and a lot of other lovely giftware…
Look at the gorgeous selection of Peter Rabbit and other Beatrix Potter gifts for babies!
They were also selling tea towels…
… and since I am making a tea towel quilt (one day!), I bought two… the first one as a reminder of visiting Dunkeld:
The second one is not going in the main tea towel quilt, but in a quilt of its own…
Isn’t it lovely? It is going in the suitcase and I will try to be creative with it when I get home….
If you happen to be driving through Dunkeld, make sure you drop in on this lovely shop! And support local Aussie business 🙂
Tomorrow is an exciting day for me… I’m going to meet an online friend.. in Seymour 🙂
It will make Alice very homesick, because she used to live near there….. Last time I was there, Alice and I went fabric shopping (of course) while the men and kids wandered around the town… Don’t worry Alice, I will take lots of pictures for you!
And now I really want to wander through the little towns of Australia. This place looks so inviting. The Beatrix Potter towel is gorgeous.

Country Victoria is lovely. Didn’t get to Dunkeld last Grampians visit. Will have to put it and that lovely shop on the list. Love both your tea towels. Enjoy your bloggy catchup xx
I look forward to seeing what you do with the second tea towel – wise words.
What a fun place to spend some time shopping! You found a couple of really nice tea towels – I especially love the Beatrix Potter one….that definitely does need a quilt of its own.
Not been to Dunkeld for a long time, but do remember it is a lovely small town with the beautifully scenic Grampians as its backdrop. Lovely shop & tea towels. The BP one brings back memories of visiting Hilltop Farm & its very wonky floors. Enjoy Seymour & take care.
That was a wonderful surprise to find Only Ewe while helping your son to “Clock Up Km’s”. Especially if you find Treasures. Cheers Raylene 💕
I’ll be you had a wonderful time meeting your friend! Only Ewe looks like a great shop I could wander in a while, and both of those tea towels are ones I would have loved, too. How nice that for all the hours of driving practice, you’ve had a chance to see and do some things. He can’t really complain if you take time out for that. =)
What a lovely looking shop – usually my VIC trips are MELB to Moama – a bit of a diversion!
