A Lovely Day in Seymour

I had the most delightful day in Seymour last Wednesday!
It started off very chilly, there was frost everywhere… this is what my windscreen looked like:
As I drove the two and a half hours to Seymour, the sun came out and melted all the frost in the paddocks. It ended up being a lovely sunny day, perfect for a day out with a friend!
The friend I met was Lenore – one of my blog readers and newsletter subscribers. We’ve been emailing back and forth for quite a while now, and I was so pleased that we were able to meet in real life!! Lenore is just as lovely in real life as she is in her “letters”!
First up we had a cuppa.. and chatted like we’d known each other forever 🙂
Then we went shopping…..
Oh, what a lovely shop!
It was not just a patchwork shop… As you can see from the photo above they had a large selection of threads, and in the photo below, DMC:
And heaps of buttons to tempt us:
Of course there was lovely fabric:
Something that we spent a lot of time with was this:
Well, you should have heard us giggle… and seen us pick out the “best” scraps… even digging right down to the bottom.. until we ended up with a very full bag:
I put the mug next to it to try to give you an idea of the size… actually I should weigh it, because it ended up being quite heavy!
While we were digging in the scrap box, one of the shop ladies was busy with this:
It’s a beanie knitting machine, and these were all made on it:
So what did I get?
Didn’t take a picture of everything, but I got a few fat quarters, some applique needles and of course the bag of scraps…
And there you have the address and phone number of Fabrics ‘n’ More.. just in case you “need” it 🙂
After we had done enough shopping, Lenore and I went back to the cafe for lunch:
I bought some yarn at Fabrics ‘n’ More so that Lenore could teach me how to knit socks.
We ordered a pot of tea and started the lesson….
Now I am really wondering if a quilter can learn how to knit socks…. because it looks a bit like a game of “pick up sticks” to me:
I have to admit that we had to pull out my first attempt… and then Lenore put all the stitches back on and transferred them to a circular needle for me… I did a few rows and so far it is looking good… but I forgot to take a picture… Trust me, it is very slow going – I wonder if I will ever be able to churn them out like Lenore does!!!! We shall see, and I will give you progress pics…
We really had so much fun, I could have stayed there knitting and chatting to Lenore for a few more hours, but alas, we both wanted to avoid hitting any kangaroos on the way home, so the socks were packed away and we both headed off in opposite directions….
It was a lovely day indeed…..
Oh, I ‘m so glad you had such a full and satisfying day!!! Meeting blog friends is amazing! Love the look of the shop and what fun to paw through the scrap bin! lol BUT, I am so happy you have cast on for a sock!!! Yippee!
How good is that Beanie machine!?! And what a good way to acquire some scraps. Good luck with the socks – way out of my league. Next ball park even, but I’m sure you’ll have them nailed in no time.
Sounds like a very nice trip, great purchases, and a lot of fun together! Enjoy your knitting 😉
What a lovely day we had Joy, it went far too quick. Now the announcement has been made that you have started a pair of socks I’m sure everyone, including me, will love to see photos of your progress. Xx
Sounds like an absolutely perfect day (one I suspect just might be repeating before long!). That shop looks amazing and it would be so easy to lose a few hours just trying to resist buying everything in sight.
Sounds like a great day & a nice shop. Aha socks! I’ve knitted a pair on two needles, but don’t like the seam up the middle & my friend Jo, who is also a prolific sock knitter says it is easy on 4 needles. I’ve yet to try. I’ve never seen a beanie knitting machine, although I saw an article all about sock knitting machines some years ago. Take care & we must talk soon.
It looked like so much fun meeting your blogger friend Lenore. So nice of her to take the time to get you started on sox. I don’t know if I will ever attempt sox as there are so many other things I want to do. That looked like a fun shop and a neat idea to sell bags of scraps! That would be fun picking those out. The beanie knitting machine tempts me too! I will try to answer your questions about my health. After many blood test which most turned out fine it appears I have chronic fatigue along with the glucose intolerance and the one bad parathyroid that is not bad enough to operate yet. I have been on med. for hot flashes but it tends to make one gain weight so my doctor told me to take half of it for 10 days and then start on the new med he prescribed. These type of meds are for depression but also used for hot flashes and I have been googling and they are also used for chronic fatigue so hoping in the long run that I will be able to.do more. I do not like taking it but would like to be able to enjoy life. Thank you for asking. I hope this was not too long. Nancy
what a fun day…. I can just imagine the digging in the bottom of that big bin for the scraps you wanted! To me hand knitted socks is the height of luxury and has been on my wish list to do for ages… one day I will get to it – good luck with yours

Even though you had a frosty start , you had a fabulous day.. what fun filling a bag with great scraps..
Good luck with the sock knitting.
I want to go on road trips with you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw dragonfly buttons.
I love that scrap pile. You will have to take a picture of the dumped out bag!!!
Hmm, it took off with my comment somewhere! It sounds like a great day, and wonderful shopping … and eating! I look forward to seeing you knitting socks. I have one friend who knits everything with a circular needle, and it sounds easier to me, too. Did you knit at all before? I’d like to learn to knit socks – only socks. I don’t want to be a knitter, but I love socks. LOL
