Welcome to day 3 of the Welcome to My House blog hop hosted by the lovely Carol from Just Let Me Quilt!
After staying in other people’s houses for the past three months in Australia, I am happy to be back at my own “house” in the Arabian Gulf… It’s actually an apartment on the 23rd floor and this is my view:
As you can see it’s a bit of a hazy day.. and/or the window is dirty 🙂
But you get the picture.
For this blog hop we all had to show a project with at least one house on it… The project I am sharing with you today is a preview of a quilt that may or may not be next year’s free block of the month 🙂
It’s a house.. made of gingerbread… well, brown thread that is 🙂
And there are five of them…
I think one of them is missing something on its roof… I’d better hunt up the pattern and do some more tracing and stitching!
DD designed these cute houses and initially I was going to make them all colorful.. but then I thought, I wonder how it would look in all brown? And so I did “brown-work”… and ordered some fabric to go with the brown blocks:
I haven’t finished the other blocks yet, but will start working on them soon.
So, what do you think? Would this make a nice free block of the month for next year? Or even starting this year??????
Let me know in the comments 🙂
Also make sure you sign up for my newsletter so that you can be the first to know if and when this does come out as the next block of the month! There is a signup form at the bottom of this post…
Well, I am off to look at some other houses in this fun blog hop! Thank you Carol for hosting it!

Yes Yes Yes! It would make a great block of the month. So so cute.
I do like those houses! Maybe a little more “gingerbread,” or decoration in varying colors would be my style.
Sweet blocks! I like to do hand embroidery once in awhile. Those would make a lovely BOM.
Very nice!
Great idea. Perfect for a block of the month. Love the houses done in brown to look like gingerbread. Hugs,xx

Hello Joy! Your “brown work” houses are so sweet. I do NOT do handwork, but I would make those. They are vintage with lots of adorable detail.

I think this would be a delightful free BOM. So many ideas already to make with them for gifts.
I really like that house block. Maybe I am wrong but the embroidery looks like even I might be able to do except for the french knots. I am not very good at those! Do you live in Saudi Arabia? Our son and wife here had a student from Valparaiso University stay with them for awhile while attending the
University that was from Saudi Arabia.. Nancy
P.S. Joy, I have already signed up for your newsletter, haven’t I? Nancy
Very pretty house blocks and a great plan for the quilt they will grace!
I love your houses & the stitching! Very cute idea!
Great houses and would make perfect BOM! Thanks for sharing!
Your stitching is beautiful. A very sweet design for a BOM. Thank you for sharing.
These are precious, anxiously awaiting to see what you do with the colorful fabrics. That would be a big yes for the BOTM. Looking forward to becoming
friends. .
I think your houses would be perfect for a block of the month project. They’re so cute!!!
I would love a BOM of Brown work. Your houses are wonderful.
Joy, what delightful houses! At first thought, I would have embroidered them in pastels, as pastels are my favorites. Brown is an excellent choice for the gingerbread houses. That is part of what is great about these hops – the sharing of the thought as to what the creator did what he/she did. This helps someone else consider other options more readily. I still don’t know what I might do, but at least I would give more consideration other than my initial thought and go with it. It would also make great redwork or bluework. I like that you say your house is an apartment. Home is where you are. I have only been out of the US to Canada and England. I loved each of the trips. I took the safe route and travelled where there was not a language boundary and not really much of a culture change. Thanks for participating in the hop. I hope to see the houses as a block of the month soon.
These are adorable! I would love to stitch these up, all through the year. I’m signing up right now!
Such sweet houses, Joy!
Well, obviously it would be a fantastic BOM! And your fabrics are gorgeous. Can’t wait to see it all put together.
These little houses are just the best thing since gingerbread Joy! You and DD make a great design/craft team. xx
Those are really cute Joy, a lovely project xx

Yes, love the houses, especially in brown.
I missed the last days of the hop by going on vacation, but now I’m checking it out. These are wonderful houses, and great designs by your daughter. You know I think she’s very talented. I would love them to be a block of the month next year! I happen to have that pink and brown reindeer fabric, so I’m all set. LOL I love your view, too. How great to stay inside in comfort and see that out the window!
Those are really sweet house blocks. Love them!
