If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you will know that the past two years I’ve participated in the 31 Day Challenge….
In 2016 I wrote the 31 Days of Quilting UFOs series.
In 2017 I wrote the 31 Days of How to Earn $ From Sewing and Quilting series.
This year I had lots of bright ideas.. and none of them ending up happening!
Do you ever wonder how people that join in on these challenges plan for them… and how much they write out in advance…?
Well, I am here to tell you my method….
- After completing the last 31 Day Challenge my mind is buzzing with new ideas… still all hyped up from completing the challenge and having fun interacting with everyone!
- A month after the last challenge, decide I have plenty of time to think about the next one…
- Three months before this year’s challenge, think – I must start planning out the next 31 days…
- Two months before this year’s challenge, think – now, what were all those ideas I had?
- One month before this year’s challenge, think – ummm, should I join in or shouldn’t I?
- Three weeks before the challenge, think – yes, I can do it!
- Two and a half weeks before the challenge, think – nope.. it ain’t gonna happen… I think I’ll skip it this year…
- Two weeks before the challenge, think – oh, I really should do it, after all it’s become a tradition….
- One and a half weeks before the challenge, think – no I really can’t do it…
- One week before the challenge – tell DD that I am not joining in this year.
- 5 days before the challenge – tell DD that I am not joining in… really I am not…. (and tell DD to yell at me if I change my mind)
- 3 days before the challenge…. maybe I should….. (don’t tell DD)
- 1 day before the challenge – nope, not going to happen… I don’t like any of my ideas….
- Day 1 of the challenge – It’s October!!! I need to join in!!!!!! What am I going to write about????!!!!!
- 9pm of Day 1 of the challenge – I am going to write about getting organized…….. (good thing DD is asleep – she can’t yell at me 🙂 )
Hahahahahahahaha (hysterical laughter)
Isn’t that an amazingly organized way of planning out a monthly writing challenge?
If you are thinking that it is the most terrible way of planning out a monthly writing challenge then you are quite right. I am not a very organized person.
Oh, I try to be. And sometimes, for a day or so I am. But one thing I can tell you – I never give up trying to be organized!!!
So, this month I am going to get organized (again), and I am going to share my bumblings with you 🙂
Aren’t you excited?!
I am 🙂
I have a few goals for this month… I want to get my sewing room organized (again), my household binder up and running (again), and my sewing & quilting binder up and running (again). I want to get the kitchen organized, and a few other areas of the apartment. Good thing it is such a small apartment, I should be able to do it all in a month 🙂
As in past years, I will be updating this page with a linked index to each blog post, so you can come back here and get a good overview of the month.

I am hoping you will have fun with me this month, and maybe you can do a little bit of organizing too! Of course I know you are all organized already, but just in case you aren’t, I’ll be sharing some planner sheets and other ideas… so, here is to a great month of Getting Organized!!!!
I’m in, a Joy! Everyone needs a little organization! I’m pretty organized, but there is always something else that needs to be done!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. At last somebody I can feel comfortable with about “getting the areas of my life organised (again)”! I thought it was just me who had to keep doing it again and again and again!
hahahahhahaha Joy you have captured what so many of us do so well. I enjoyed your first post. I am sitting this one out, but I will enjoy your 31 days.
I am looking forward to just reading how you will be getting organized. Nancy
Oh, we all could sing this song at one time or another!!! lol
I am very organized but life imposes great pitfalls to my smooth! Yikes!
Look forward to your posts, and you describe it so well.
I like to think I”m pretty organized, but always looking for practical tips! I’ll be following along all month.
Sounds good & I’m neither organised or motivated at the moment, so this may help, though today I made as start on the filing cabinet. Even the poor old shredder had a slack attack in the middle of what I was doing. Off to read the next one, as I’m so behind on blogging/reading. Take care.
Oh, my goodness! Are we twin sisters? Your decision-making process sounds so much like me and your challenge to stay organized is my bio. So, I’m looking forward to this 31 day series and walking hand-in-hand through our mutual difficulties.
I must admit I read the process of making your decision with a broad smile on my face…how I identify with that! I must admit to being an organization junkie – that’s not to say that I’m organized (far from it) but I absolutely love reading organizational books. I will be following your progress with great interest!
You sound so like me, Joy – yes I can, no I can’t, yes I can, no I can’t!!! Good luck with your month of being organised……a bit of organisation wouldn’t go amiss around here, too……
Love it! I’m so organised I’m just getting to read your posts today … looking forward to following your challenge and getting some tips.
