Welcome to Day 2 of 31 Days of Getting Organized!
I am a very “out of sight, out of mind” type of person. I find that writing things down and setting goals helps me stay focused. So I usually set monthly goals, and then weekly ones…
I know that many of you also set goals, like Susan from DesertSky Quilting. At the beginning of each month and each week she sets out her goals on her blog, and then at the end she gives us an update on how she did. Just reading her goals motivates me 🙂
Although I do set monthly and weekly goals, I don’t usually share them consistently on my blog. For a while now I’ve been wanting to do that, and I know this will help me in getting organized.
There are lots of challenges out there that encourage setting monthly goals. Many of you know about OMG (One Monthly Goal) hosted by Elm Street Quilts. This month I am going to join up for the first time!!
I’ve decided my OMG for this month is going to be….. getting the binding on my purple mystery quilt which Judy cleverly spotted hiding in my sewing corner:
I managed to get it quilted on Emmie G before I left Oz last month, and I also cut out the binding ready to go… how organized is that?! Of course now I need to find it… it’s somewhere in my unorganized sewing room.. good thing I am getting organized this month!
One reason I have never joined in on OMG is because I can’t just have one goal for the month. Even if I don’t get them done, I like to have a whole bunch… and I like to have them somewhat categorized… so here goes.
My Monthly Goals for October are:
One Monthly Goal
Sew the binding on the Purple Mystery Quilt
Other Sewing, Quilting, and Yarn Fun Goals
1. Finish Sue’s Christmas Wreath
2. Start the SOCKS again, and FINISH the ribbing
3. Work on the Gingerbread BOM for next year
Kitchen & Cooking Goals
1. Try two new recipes
2. Organize Fridge ~ and share on blog
3. Organize Freezer ~ and share on blog
Blogging Goals
1. Do the 31 Day Challenge
2. Work on a Christmas Stitchalong for my newsletter subscribers!
3. Look at opening an Etsy shop for my patterns (because it deals with VAT and Craftsy doesn’t, and I want to be legal)
Ok, I think that will do, don’t you?
Now here’s a question for you – other than OMG, are there any monthly goal challenges that you link up with? Please share them with us!
I think that is plenty to keep you busy!
That will keep you out of mischief Joy. 🙂 :). Good luck with you goals. Hugs,xx
Welcome to the One Monthly Goal! I did Patchwork Times’ monthly goals until she quit, and then I did Sew BitterSweet Designs, until she quit, and about then, along came One Monthly Goal, first on another blog and now on Elm Street Quilts. I like to have a UFO or finishing goal that I can take my time with for the month, and then point to and say, “I did this!” Days slip so quickly by! The weekly goals are to push projects along, and I’ve been doing that in this same way for 123 weeks! Before that I did it another way, but this works the best of anything I’ve ever tried. It keeps me focused on what’s next. There are a lot of good things out there, such as weekly and monthly linkies, and one of them is bound to be what clicks for each of us.
Thrilled to see socks on the list. Xx
Good luck with all of that, I am lucky to get one of my projects done in a year, but I do set weekly lists of what I NEED to do in my business and list quilts that I hope to get done that week. I do like a list and to see items crossed off when I do them. Love your quilt, might have to repeat that one again.
That’s a pretty comprehensive list & will enjoy seeing what you get done & how you go about it. I usually write daily lists for what I need to get done around the house & hopefully do it, but that’s all. I’ll pop over to Patty’s blog to see what she’s up to with OMG. Take care & thanks for this challenge.
Hi Joy,
Tweak the acronym, OMG could become One (handful of) Monthly Goals . Five digits in a handful = 5 goals for the month!
Or you could have One (handshake full of) Monthly Goals. Two hands in a handshake so 10 digits = 10 goals for the month.
I like this idea – 5 or 10. Sounds doable.
That’s a lot to get done… I’m sure you will get a good way through. I must admit I do like lists but I’m not so good at keeping them – except for work stuff….
Hugz
Thanks for the reminder to head over to Elm St. I like your goals list. I kind of have that in my *very simplistic* Bullet Journal, but need to expand and think of the month as a whole, not just dailies and weeklies.
Adding binding is a great goal! Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your project.
Wow! That is some ambitious planning you got there. Good for you! I agree that setting goals seams to motivate me better than when I haven’t. I’ve been thinking along the same lines as you but haven’t nailed down my goals yet. Just seeing someone else set goals is always motivating!
I rarely set goals other than having a general sense of what I hope to accomplish each week. If I set concrete goals I ending feeling somewhat of a failure if I don’t manage to make them. My goal, in retirement, is to enjoy the process of creating and for the most part I’m pretty happy with what I accomplish. I so admire those who are willing to put their goal lists out there and then be also willing to report on how well (or how poorly!) they do. I’ll enjoy seeing how you do with your list!
