Welcome to Day 11 of 31 Days of Getting Organized!
I’m taking a break from organizing my sewing room because last night DD and I arrived in Holland… we are here for a week to pack up her belongings, clean her room at the student housing place, and hand in the key. She will be coming to stay with us in the Gulf, so this is the last chapter of her short sojourn in the Netherlands.
It’s a bittersweet week for her because she didn’t get in to the Art University here. But she is not giving up! She’s just working on her art career in a different way. She’ll keep designing stitcheries, and with us both living in the same country, hopefully we’ll be productive!
Today I’ll be sharing my travel checklist with you… the list I look at every time I am about to head off on a trip, which has been a lot these past years. I like to keep a master copy, and then I will add to it or change things if needed…
My basic travel strategy is based around the three things I take with me – suitcase, trolley bag and handbag:
By the way, if you live in Australia, the Australian Luggage Co makes great light weight luggage! I have only used the trolley bag because I like my suitcase to be a hard cover, but if you want light and good quality luggage, I’ve been happy with my trolley so far.
Most trolley bags are heavy to begin with, so by the time you put your computer in it, you can’t put anything else in! I get 7kg carry on allowance with Emirates, and with this trolley bag I can easily have my laptop, plus some other odds and ends, and still be under 7kg.
My master list looks like this:
You can tell it is an old one because it has “Abaya” written under “trolley bag”. An “Abaya” is a black dress we had to wear when we lived in Arabia, not to be confused with a burka.
Now that I live in the Gulf, I no longer need to make sure I remember to take my abaya, so I need to update my list… for now I just cross it off… I use this list on my ipad, open it in Goodnotes and then scribble away:
Sometimes it becomes quite a jumble of notes… other times, like yesterday, I was only taking the basics, so I didn’t scribble on it too much…
We traveled light this time, because we need the space to bring DD’s stuff back. Looking at what she has here today, I think we will easily fit everything in two suitcases. She doesn’t have a lot here, so that is good.
Did you see that I wrote “socks” on my list above? I hope I get a chance to work on them while I am here 🙂
You may have your own travel check list, but if you don’t, you can click on the picture below and download my blank travel checklist for free:
How about when you travel? Do you have a master list you refer to, or do you just write a list as you go… or do you not write lists at all?!
Great idea Joy. Have a lovely week in Holland. Hugs,xx
Good to see you’re very organised for travel .
Have a lovely week in The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Hi Joy, I don’t have a master list but just write down last minutee things I don’t want to forget in the morning we go. I am sorry your daughter did not get into art school but maybe God has a different plan for her. Enjoy this trip together. Nancy
I go absolutely nowhere without a list because I’m bound to forget something somewhere along the line. Even just running errands requires a list because inevitably we end up getting home and having to go right back out again because I’ve forgotten something. I won’t mention the fact that quite often I forget to put things on the list in the first place….gotta love mental pause.
A list like this looks great at keeping you on track. I’d add passport and tickets to it for my own use! Sorry to hear your daughter didn’t get in like she wanted – what an experience she would have had already living in the Netherlands for this time though.
I should have a list, but I generally don’t. I sit down a few days before hand and start one, adding to it as things come to mind. It works, but it definitely isn’t organized.
Happy to see socks added to the list. I am catching up on all your blogs, loving them.
