Welcome to Day 23 of 31 Days of Getting Organized!
One of the reasons I started making a sewing and quilting binder many years ago, was to have all my “go to” sewing and quilting info in one place.
For example, when I did the binding on a quilt, I was forever forgetting the needle setting I used while using the walking foot… so I would mess around a few times before I got it right. I then got a brilliant idea that I should write down the setting for next time… so I did.. on a scrap of paper.. which I lost… in a notebook… that got packed away in storage… or I took a photo.. that is somewhere on my computer…. you get the picture 🙂 I am sure I am the only one who does this…
After doing this numerous times, I decided it was such a waste of time and that I should stop putting off making up a sewing and quilting binder…. I looked around the web to see if any such thing existed, but at the time it didn’t…. which is why I started making my own printables.
So I made the following lists:
- ufos
- new projects
- Boms
- quilting goals
- works in progress
- gifts to make…
- notes
And some others…. you can see sample pics of them on Craftsy, plus some freebies.
The other area (or category) I am still working on, is collecting useful sewing and quilting information sheets to put in my binder/Goodnotes binder, such as this half square triangle cheat sheet from Jacquelynne Steves (free on Craftsy):
Moda Bake Shop has some cool ones too:
So these are a few things I am still trying to get organized…
Do you have a folder or spot to put these kinds of frequently used printables or cheat sheets?
What kinds of sewing and quilting info do you go to again and again?
I am loving your 31 days of organizing. I have been trying to organize a binder with knitting and quilting stuff. I may look into GoodNotes. I want to see a tutorial.
Thanks Joy for advising re the free printables. I have a large ring lock folder for my patchwork, it’s stretched to the limit and I will need to get another. Love following your ideas. Xx
Great ideas and printables. I have a tendency to put things in a pile and the disappear and then I print them again! I probably have 5 sets of the directions to make pillow cases.. somewhere
I have papers all over the place, and when I sorted my room, they all ended up in a plastic tub that I put under the desk, to be sorted and filed properly another day. Should have started this project many years ago.
Good idea to make a binder for all this stuff. I have several things pinned to a bulletin board in front of my sewing desk, but I like the more organized and neat idea of a binder.
Oh – you mean those crypic little notes that are found on my bulletin board that I’m SURE much mean something – to somebody – somewhere. That somebody just doesn’t happen to be me! A binder – who knew?
