Welcome to Day 28 of 31 Days of Getting Organized!
Do you ever have days that just disappear on you? I did today. I got no organization done whatsoever…. oh well, these things happen.
I did however find a few old photos of sewing rooms I’ve had in the past, so I thought I’d take you on a trip down memory… er… sewing room lane 🙂 These are not all the sewing rooms I’ve had in the past, just in five (of the 27) previous houses….
In the earlier days of quilting, I had a little corner for my sewing:
That was in a corner of the lounge room, near the front door, and worked quite well with the bookshelves next to me… and I didn’t have a lot of sewing stuff in those days 🙂 Those little wooden boxes in the background alternated between being for school stuff or sewing stuff!
More often than not, I shared my sewing “room” with the school room (we homeschooled):
So sometimes the tables were full of sewing and quilting, and other times with school stuff.
Another shared sewing/school room here:
Oh, there’s Alice!!
The house above was a rental, temporary until we moved into our own home… when we got to our little farm there was a room tacked on the back of the house:
It was a mess inside, but after a bit of fixing up, I had a very small sewing room:
I didn’t even have space to put a decent size cutting board out! So I’d walk into the house and cut on the kitchen table… and then walk back out again 🙂 At least all my sewing stuff was unpacked and in one spot… and it worked well until Mickey Mouse and his friends decided to live in the fabric…………. but that is another story 🙂
Our next house had space for a combined schoolroom & sewing room again (no need to do either at the kitchen table anymore!):
Yes! Space for my cutting boards! Oh, and you can see the Ikea tubs there in the back, they used to have kids’ toys in them….
And here is a real life picture of that sewing room in action (no staging!!):
Oooh, loook! there is a trolley of sorts on the right! That poor trolley wasn’t quite the same quality of the Ikea one I have now… it didn’t survive another move after that one…. but it was good while it lasted!
That last pic is what I like to call a creative mess. Because while my sewing room can be perfectly organized sometimes… more often than not, it is like the pic above 🙂
Is your sewing room picture perfect? If it is, please send me a pic to share with the rest of the world 🙂
An interesting trip down memory lane. I still cant believe you’ve lived in 27 different homes!!! [We’re in our 4th :-)] My room gets plenty messy – I”m right on the verge of giving it a good spring clean though; you’ve motivated me with all the organising you’ve done this month!!
I have been reading, but had trouble with comments on blogs for a while, but all seems better now on the PC at least. I’ve enjoyed reading so far & especially this one of down memory lane sewing rooms. I’ve very few photos until the digital camera age appeared. Happy organising, thanks & take care.
Hi Joy, You sure are good at adapting your sewing room to wherever you live! No my sewing room is not always picture perfect either and I don’t do near the sewing you do!! Nancy
You can’t be tidy and creative at the same time, well that’s my story and I ‘m sticking to it!
I have a big sewing room now but it has not always been that way either!
What would we do without our dining room tables!!!? I like to see the many views where you have sewn along the years!
There is no way I would take a picture of my sewing room. I am not going to hand over blackmail evidence to anyone!
Such fun! I love snooping into sewing spaces and good on you for sharing the ‘real’ sewing area. If you really and truly want to see inside mine, check out my blog post here…https://magpiesmumblings.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-big-and-final-real-studio-reveal.html
