Last week I went up to Horsham for a few days because my DFIL was in hospital. Actually, he has been in and out of 4 different hospitals since just after Christmas, so it’s been a bit of a stressful time for us. Yet another reason why I haven’t gotten back into my blogging and sewing groove. I think… He was doing much better at this last visit though, so that was good…
It was the first time I’d been to the Wimmera Base Hospital, and in amongst all the medical stuff that was happening, I was pleased to see this lovely quilt hanging on the wall next to the cafe:
It was a bit hard to get a good picture of it because it was in a hallway… but you get the idea…
The hospital must have been full, because my DFIL was in the maternity ward 🙂 Which brings me to another quilt… one that is just as lovely and full of meaning…
The top left square says: SIDS and Kids, Grampians Bereavement Support Service… I don’t know who made the quilt, possibly the family members, but it is a lovely memory quilt. I can’t even begin to imagine the loss of a baby or toddler….
Out and about in town, I noticed this shop:
This craft shop is run by the local Uniting Church, and of course I had to check it out 🙂
There was quite a variety of craft items.. and plants… 🙂
And since I haven’t been doing any sewing myself, I decided I’d get my “sewing fix” with a few things made by other crafters 🙂
I came home with this pretty bag:
and with this gorgeous table cloth:
When I saw it in the shop, it was folded like that, and I thought – oh how sweet! It has this girl in the corner….. I didn’t even think that all four corners had one….
…not to mention the chicken scratch in the middle!
Isn’t it pretty? Now it is a bit too small for that table… so I will just have to find another table to fit it 🙂
Here’s a closer look at the crochet corner:
And because I know you are wondering what the back looks like:
A lot of work went into that table cloth, and they were only asking $15 for it.. which I thought was not much. So some of my birthday money went to that little shop…. All proceeds go to local charities and events…. they had this little sign on the front counter:
If you’re ever in Horsham, do look them up! Some very talented ladies have made items for that little shop… and the money goes straight back into the community!
In other news, little Sapphy is being totally spoiled, getting carried around like a baby:
What more could you ask for with a cat apron… but a cat in the apron pockets… 🙂
The table cloth is very pretty! The care in the hospital quilts is very evident!
Love the kitty apron and the kitty in the apron!
So sorry about your FIL. But glad you had such a good day looking around. Love that little craft shop.
Pray that your DFIL gets well real soon–and what lovely quilts in the hospital they always make a place feel safer for some reason–
and love that craft shop and love the goodies you bought there–
and that kitten is just plain too cute!!!
luv, di
Love the table cloth. The crochet crinoline ladies are a favourite of mine. The craft shop looks a wonderful place to visit. Hope DFIL gets better soon. Awww how cute is Sapphy in the apron pocket. Hugs,xx
Gorgeous table cloth. I have an apron my beautiful MIL made me 30 years ago using a similar motif. I treasure it. I hope your DFIL is on the road to recovery. Xx
Hope DFIL recovers fully soon…. Lovely to see the quilts hanging and well done for finding a lovely shop.
Hugz
So sorry your husband is not well. I wish him the best of health. That tablecloth is gorgeous and how wonderful that you got it for such a great price and that the proceeds go to a good cause.
Glad to hear DFIL is improving – just love the landscape quilt. What a great idea that shop is – such a sweet tablecloth.
Hi Joy, Glad to hear your father-in-law is doing better. Very pretty purse and oh I could drool over that beautiful little tablecloth. Beautiful. Lucky you. Darling Kitty too. Nancy
Glad to hear DFIL is now on the mend & you had a lovely wander around Horsham. Great finds in the craft co-op & the hospital quilts are lovely. Oh, Sapphy is so gorgeous. Can’t wait to have a cuddle. Take care.
That table cloth was a great find, the crochet is terrific. Love kitty in the pocket…. so placid and beautiful. Best wishes to DFIL for a return to health.
Hope your DFIL is better soon. I have a tablecloth that is very similar, made by my aunt, she didn’t do the chicken scratch in the middle though. That little shop certainly raised a bit of money over the year. Saphy is so sweet, I can remember carrying one of my cats around in my apron pocket, he was the most affectionate cat I have ever had.
I’m sorry to hear about your DFIL Joy. I’m sure he was heartened by your visit. Isn’t it interesting the unexpected finds we come acrosss on our travels. What lovely and meaningful quilts, and a beautiful array of goodies in the craft shop. I love the Crinoline ladies cloth you found!
Perhaps there was a reason for you to be back in Australia, with the inlaws health like it is. Glad your had success shopping in Horsham
Hello Joy, just popping over for a visit to your lovely blog 🙂 I just adore the new tablecloth with the crinoline ladies at each corner. I am sure that is a VERY old pattern but so lovely … it would’ve had to come home with me too! Do hope your FIL makes a speedy recovery Joy. Xx
That table cloth is quite beautiful, and also unique. Best wishes for your FIL.
It’s been awhile again since we’ve heard from you. Hope all’s well and especially that your dfil is doing much better. Saphy is such a gorgeous kitty!
I can read it! Whoop whoop!!! Saphy is too cute! The apron isn’t bad either. The hospital quilts are amazing and the craft shop is a very cool idea. Glad hubby’s dad is doing better. Fingers crossed that he continues to improve!!
