Welcome to Quilt Qwazy Queens, a blog hop hosted by the lovely Marian from Seams to be Sew!
This is my first time participating in this hop to celebrate National Quilting Month… and this year Marian has asked us to share our craziest quilted project!
I had a few that I could have shared actually… 🙂 But I finally decided on this one… what I like to call my crazy kitty:
The reason I call it my crazy kitty is because it is the first time I worked with brights 🙂 Actually it was my first time doing raw edge applique and I was just learning how to free motion quilt… so all in all it was a crazy project for me!
This kitty is part of a pattern by Kelly from Don’t Look Now and I made it during a class I took from her way back in 2010.
Up until that time I was mostly using country fabrics, pastels, and mostly blues… so when I went to the class, I was encouraged to go completely out of my comfort zone and go crazy with brights! Which I never thought I would do 🙂
I certainly had fun choosing a bunch of bright fat quarters!
First step was to iron all the shapes to the background fabric…
Then we appliqued the pieces – free motion..!! That was a great learning curve for me! But I was surprised how quickly I got the hang of it…
Next up was the background quilting…
More free motion – once you get into the zone it is hard to stop!
And all done…
I actually did trim and bind it to turn it into a wallhanging, but I can’t find a pic of it… and of course it is packed away in storage somewhere… I am sure it will surface one day!
So that is my crazy kitty…. it was the start of my love of brights, applique and free motion! I haven’t done any for so long, I really should get back into it!
Now that you’ve seen my Quilt Qwazy project, go and check out the others who are sharing today!
Oh, and there are also prizes to be won – two $35 gift vouchers from the Fat Quarter Shop – you can enter here and see the full list of participants.
Thanks Marian for hosting this fun hop.. I’m off to check out the rest of the qwazy projects 🙂
PS If you’re looking for the next block in the Gingerbread Village BOM, I’ll be posting it tomorrow!

Oh, this is just darling! Love your crazy kitty – beautiful quilting. I took a class from Kelly several years ago, and the straight-edge appli-quilting was new to me too. I loved the result, but after that twinge between my shoulder blades as I tried to do the teensy quilting on my home machine, I just pulled it off and finished it on the longarm. I miss her in the quilting scene.
What an absolutely adorable project, and that quilting is super cool with the circular shape around the applique. I love it.
love the design and the bright colors you used. I don’t have the FMQ skill yet, but I am working on it.
