Welcome to the last day of the All About Strings Blog Hophosted by the lovely Carla from Creatin’ in The Sticks!
There have been some amazing projects made in this blog hop, and I am still catching up on all the posts! You can see the full list of participants here.
Today is my turn, and at the end of this post I’ll give you the links to the others who are on today as well. Oh – there is a giveaway, so make sure you visit Carla’s blog for your chance to win a voucher for the Fat Quarter Shop!
Ok, on with the show…. 🙂
I have to say, I do love strings! I’ve been known to go through rubbish bins after quilt classes and workshops to collect strings that have been thrown away… ahem… I am sure I am the only person who does this.. right?!
I’ve made a few finished strings projects in the past, including this one:
There are a few that are UFOs.. like this big one that I want to turn into a picnic rug:
I think it is even bigger than that now…. just need to find it and finish it!
For this All About Strings Hop, I pulled out this project:
I had all the blocks together and then it took me a while to pop the border on… now it is ironed and hanging on my design wall ready for the next stage of getting loaded onto the longarm and quilted.
These strings were actually from a honey bun, so they match nicely…
I kept all the scraps and sewed them together for the binding:
I’ll crosscut them later on and hopefully there will be enough to go around the whole quilt!
So that was supposed to be my project for this hop… but getting on the design wall was as far as it got!
Instead I decided to make a mini quilt to go on my coffee table…
I just sewed four string blocks together and then put a 2″ border around it to make it 14″ square… I then started a simple crosshatch to quilt it…
And this is how far I got:
I should have had it finished by today, but sometimes life happens and things don’t go as planned! I will give you an updated pic as soon as it is done though – it is NOT going to become a UFO 🙂
Speaking of UFOs… I’m going to host a challenge in April… so make sure you some back to check it out or sign up for my newsletter to hear more about it!
So there you have it – some of my past and current strings projects! Hope you are enjoying this blog hop and go check out the others who are posting today:

Very very cute and soft looking ty for sharing your talents with us…
Well done. I know life gets in the way if us sewing.
I think all your string projects are great! Thanks for the quilting idea on the mini…the cross hatch will look really nice with that string design.
So what do you back a picnic quilt with? I’ve tried flannel and some darker prints….you know how flannel will pick up every stray leave and grass blade there is….
That’s a really nice block and I haven’t made any in a long time–
I think I will use the idea on a soon to happen trip to oldest grand daughter and get her started on a pile! (You need to work on the Honey Bun one–it is very pretty!)
I had to grin when you talked about digging through the trash after a quilting class for strings. What a great idea! 😀 Enjoyed seeing your string projects
Great projects! Like the picnic quilt idea and the honey bun quilt is looking fabulous.
The quilt looks so pretty with all coordinating fabrics. I love the multi-color scrappy ones too. Well I just love string quilts no matter how they are made and look. LOL!
Life happens! I’m sure you will finish you Hop table topper very soon. Thanks for sharing the lovely string-y projects that you have in the works!
I love your honey bun string project!
Great string projects, love that big one!
Life can be so annoying when it gets in the way of our sewing, but it looks like you’re off to a great start with that project. I love your picnic rug…wow, that is so big and amazing!
The table topper idea definitely caught my eye for a project to tackle with my “spare parts.”
I think it’s a fun idea to make things to go on the table from favorite scraps. That way you can see them often. I just might have to do it too.
I love string quilts, but that honey bun with the matching colors is gorgeous!
I love it. Your quilt top is so soft and pretty. It will be beautiful. You are a clever one finding strips in bins after classes. One mans trash is another’s treasure and this would certainly be something I would do. I am definitely not a fabric snob. I love them all! Thank you so much for joining the All About Strings Blog Hop. Your quilt top is a LOVE!
Thank you for sharing and inspiring today. I love your mini on the wall. Those fabrics are gorgeous together. And your other projects are wonderful.
So there you go–just stringing us along!!!!
and making us all want to run to the quilt room and start our own–
stringing along!!!
luv, di
I always hate when life messes up my sewing. LOL Love all the projects you shared. Hope you can get back to them soon to finish up. Thanks for sharing.
Great projects!
All of your string pieces are great. I am looking forward to the finish of the last one. I find it amazing how diffferent that simple quilting is making that block look.
I love the picnic quilt! It looks sort of like what I’m trying to achieve.
Life does happen and it is always inconvenient!!! But you did get a cute mat for your coffee table out of it!! That’s a win in my book!
I did a strings project a few years ago… and keep meaning to get my ‘strings’ together for another one sometime… they are so varied and effective…
Hugz
Lovely project! And yes life does get in the way.
Thanks for the inspiration with the honey bun. I have a jelly roll that’s been hanging around forever. Maybe I will cut some of the strips in halves, or there abouts and give this a go!?!
String projects are so pretty! nancy
You have some great projects going! Good luck finishing–they will all be amazing! Thanks for sharing them!
This has been a lot of fun. Everyone’s quilts are so different because everyone’s strings are so different. I have been wanting to make one of my daughters a picnic quilt, and I think it may just have to be a string quilt!
So pretty strings projects! Good idea digging in the trash after a class for scraps.
Thanks for sharing all of these wonderful projects.
I like your string projects – so many fun colours!
I cant believe I’ve never donemuch in the way of string sewing, although I do love the look. And of course they appeal to the scrappy quilter inside. Oh and don’t worry, I’ve been known to go through the odd rubbish bin too, but friends know me now and make a pile of scrappiness for me rather than throwing the bits in the bin!
