I’ve been quilting this Easter long weekend… and unpicking… sigh!
First up, the quilting…
Emmie G has been getting quite a workout! A few weeks ago I got five customer quilts… but before I started on them, I wanted to do a practice run with one of my own quilts. I haven’t used Emmie G since last winter, so I wanted to make sure everything was going ok…
I decided to start with Anita’s Arrowhead:
For those of you who don’t know, I have a Gammill Longarm machine – and sadly, it is not computerised. When I do customer work, I usually use pantographs.. so that is what I did for this quilt.
I had a few problems with this quilt… actually, let me rephrase that – I had ONE problem…
Someone thinks that Emmie G is a giant piece of playground equipment, just for her….
Not only can she climb up on it, she can play under it…
Yes, she thinks it is hers….
…and doesn’t seem to be worried about getting run over…
I was mean and kicked her off.. but when the quilting was all done I let her get comfy…
Anita’s Arrowhead is cat approved 🙂 Now to get the binding on….!
After the success of finishing one quilt, Sapphy got locked out of the sewing room and I did a few customer quilts… (Sapphy was not impressed)
The third customer quilt was HUGE, only just fit on Emmie G!
Things were going well until I noticed that something had gone wrong…. I only noticed after I had done a row and a quarter wrong!!!
Because a lot of the fabric is busy, I didn’t see that the pantograph was out of alignment:
In the middle of the quilt it was quite obvious:
So, ahem… I spent most of Sunday and today unpicking……..
I worked out what the problem was – the laser light wasn’t screwed on tight enough, and was slowly moving… so of course the rows went out of whack… Dad brought his tool set over and now it is on nice and tight.
I finished off the quilt a few hours ago, and now I have two more to do…. I will be keeping an eye on that laser light from now on!!
How was your Easter weekend? I hope it was a lovely relaxing one, with no unpicking!
And I suppose your studio helper wasn’t in sight while you were unpicking. I’m afraid I don’t know much about longarm quilting machines but I imagine all that reverse stitching wasn’t something you wanted to do! (ps. can’t get over how much Sappy has grown!)
Love that pretty kitty and your quilt my dear Joy.
Big kiss.
Ugh! Picking out stitches is NO fun! Nothing for it, though, it must be done.
I have the same problem with the laser drifting-what a pain!
And cats–don’t get me started–they will sleep on the quilt like a giant hammock and leave a big divet instead of a tight, flat surface! I can’t lock mine out–it is an open room! Good job done on your part-they will be great!
How frustrating. Pleased to hear it is finished. X
Such a cue little helper. Your quilt is lovely. Glad the problem with the machine was a simple fix & that your Dad could fix it. Hugs,xx
Emmie G is glad to be out playing again. Well done with the quilting and the unpicking! pooh…. but I’m glad it was fixable and you can get going again….
Hugz
Good to see Emmie G up & running now, but, oh dear, I hate unpicking, which I did also a couple of months ago on one of mine. That little helper will have to be so careful, not to get hurt. I’ve been unpicking two blocks I sewed up wrong, but that’s small compared to yours & I’m sewing binding down of an evening. Have a good week & take care.
Sorry you had to unpick, but it’s really an occupational hazard, and has to be done, especially on a customer quilt! What you spend 5 minutes quilting, usually takes an hour or so of unpicking!
You are talented and brave! I would be a nervous wreck doing that quilting for others. I had a very nice Easter with family. Nancy
You very nearly had a quilted kitty! Lol! How annoying to have to do all, that unpicking….thnk goodness for Dad xx
Oh how annoying it was the customer Quilt .. pleased EmmieG is working again thanks to Dad..
Cute helper ….
