On with the Accuquilt Go! Retreat report…On Saturday, we did more cutting, but also some sewing… and played with Accuquilt’s Cleopatra’s Fan die, the Log Cabin die, and a few more…
After just cutting on Thursday and Friday, I pulled out Baby B for some sewing…. thought I’d try to use some different muscles 🙂
Accuquilt’s Log Cabin Die
The other ladies were already on a roll with their sewing machines… Judy was testing the Accuquilt Log Cabin die (affiliate link), and shared my table while she was stitching it up..
Just realized I don’t have a picture of the finished block… we’ll have to wait until Judy posts one, one day 🙂 I do like the fabrics she chose for making the block, and as I also have the die, I really need to try it out one of these days…
ACCUQUILT’s Cleopatra’s Fan Die
Dione was in testing mode as well…. she had a new die from Accuquilt, called Cleopatra’s Fan (affiliate link) that she got as part of being an Island Batik Ambassador, and she used her lovely Island Batik fabrics to make this block:
Isn’t it pretty?! Pat got all excited and made two blocks:
There are so many ways to put these blocks together…
But by the end of the weekend Pat had made two more and sewn them together for a bed runner:
Hopefully Judy will show us a pic of it finished one day 🙂
I decided to get on the Cleopatra’s Fan bandwagon too, but do it as an applique:
Obviously I’ll have to cut the little tags off before I iron it down, and I am still deciding how exactly I am going to do it all… I cut more out while I had access to the die, and then bagged it all up to finish at home, because I had other dies I wanted to try…
Pinwheels!
Meanwhile, Dione was working on her mystery quilt from last year…
She wanted to get all the blocks sewn together so that she could lay it out and then make it bigger with an applique border… using some of my applique dies… I didn’t get a picture of her finished layout, but you can check it out here on her blog – including all of the dies she borrowed from me! It is going to be a gorgeous quilt!
So what was I sewing? Well, after I cut out all the bits for Cleopatra’s Fan (which took a while), I borrowed some more of Dione’s dies and started sewing some of these…
More on the dies I used, and how many baskets I sewed, another day…. I need to get ready for the next Gingerbread Village Block !

The Cleopatra Fan would look great as a big center block….great inspiration for me!
I also love the pinwheel layout–nice perk to an old favorite of a block!
I’ve seen that Cleopatra’s block & now fancy giving it a try, but
I don’t have an Accuquilt cutter or dies. I’ll think about that. Oh & Btw, I’ve found some gorgeous ‘C’ fabric………🤗 Look forward to your next instalment. Take care.
looks a great day playing. Nice to have access to the acuquilt and a range of dies and a good way to get the value out of them to share…

Don’t forget to show us your tiny strings blocks, as I forgot to take a photo of them.
Hi Joy, So many pretty things you can make with the dyes! It was nice you could get together with others to share the use of the dyes and try new ones! Nancy
How fun! Everything is beautiful! All of you are working so hard! I am impressed…and I love your idea to do the fan in applique!
I like that Cleopatra’s fan block, and I can see from your cuts that it might not be too hard to put together, with the little matching notches. I look forward to seeing your appliquéd version. I love baskets! That’s my all-time about favorite block – toss up between that and the Sister’s Choice – both beauties. Wonderful batiks you used, and Dione’s are just terrific, too. I am wondering if we’ll see that show up in one of her Island Batik projects! Everyone was doing such pretty things. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like such great fun – and even better to be able to borrow and test out other dies. Getting inspiration from one another had to be the best part!
Looks like a Fun and Very Productive weekend Joy!! How satisfying to get all those scraps cut and some sewing and new ideas flowing too.
