Last week I spent some lovely days catching up with friends and visiting a new quilt shop!
Hubby had a business trip and I went with him… so while he worked, I relaxed and caught up with old friends… and some of that time was spent here at a brand new quilt shop…
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you will know that I used to have a quilt shop in Arabia… and it was all thanks to my friend, Nora, who had a quilt shop in another town. She helped me set up my little shop – I was basically a branch of hers 🙂 You can read more about that story in this post….
Many years have gone by since Nora first started her shop and when she started it was tiny… just one room:
Fast forward about 14 years and she has grown so much that she just moved into this big space a few weeks ago:
The shop is not officially open yet… but I was lucky to get to visit and see how it was all going! And of course buy some fabric… but more on that in another post 🙂
For now I thought I’d just show you some pics of the shop as it’s still being set up…
Lots of threads and notions… some I had seen last time I was there, but there was some new stuff… Nora and her staff have been very busy sewing up ready made items for sale, like this variety of bags…
And rag dolls…
I think the quilt above was made with Downton Abbey Fabric.
This lovely old Singer sewing machine was Nora’s mother’s:
Nora is also starting to branch out into yarn, since she wants to cover more crafts than just sewing and quilting…
And of course there is an Accuquilt Go! (affiliate link) corner 🙂
If you’re an Accuquilt fan, they have some very good deals going at the moment that you can check out here (affiliate link) including half price dies.
I didn’t take many pics of the fabric.. just this one of the pinks, purples and batiks.. (oh and aren’t the little wall hangings above the fabric cute?!)
There were new batiks there since I last visited, so I did buy a little pile… which are now in my suitcase…
Nora’s got a big order coming in from Moda soon… but sadly I won’t be there to see it!!
Well, that gives you a bit of an idea of how the shop looks… In my next post I’ll be sharing photos of wall hangings and quilts…
Hi Joy! What a fabulous shop. I love seeing the “Ladies only” sign on the door. HAHA! I’ll bet that may get a few looks and wonders about what is going on behind the curtains. It looks very welcoming and bright, and you might just say a Joy to visit. That is fabulous that your friend needed a bigger space. I wish her all the success in her new space. ~smile~ Roseanne
I’m ready for a visit!!!! What a beautiful shop! She has a good eye for decorating her space and keeping space between the decorations–I love it!
lovely to see the new shop and hear that it is growing…. so often we hear of them shutting down… It looks lovely and airey and lots to play with

Oh my goodness – that shop looks like my idea of heaven! We have a small shop here but very little in the way of stock and an owner who isn’t very nice. Generally try to avoid the place if I can.
Oh, what fun you are having! A beautiful shop! Do you miss having your own shop? You ask how I was doing. I am taking some new med. Maybe it is just wishful thinking but I think it is helping a bit. Hoping and praying it will anyway. Nancy
How lovely to visit and see all the expansion….beautiful shop x
Well done to Nora on the opening of her new shop – it looks beautiful and one can see she and her staff have gone to great lengths to make it a real delight.
