After the fun Accuquilt weekend of sharing dies at Judy’s, I thought I should check out the dies that Nora had while I was visiting her…
I knew we had a lot of the same Accuquilt dies because we did our first order as a shop together, but of course Nora has gotten some more in since then, and the one I liked the look of was the Heather Feather Die #2 (affiliate link)
Oh, just noticed it’s on special at the moment… maybe I should get one… 🙂
I found some new batik to use, cut out some steam-a-seam, and started ironing them together….
I had a play on my Ipad with what I might want to do with it… (love my Ipad!!) I downloaded the official picture from the Accuquilt website and then imported it into my Ipad.
I wanted to make a table topper (you know how much I love them!), so I thought of a square and the applique like this:
I really want to get a circle-ish shape in the middle and wasn’t too happy with that layout, so I cut some of the feathers out and came up with this:
I’ve decided I like that better.. and can imagine some pretty quilting in the middle… and then I can still use some of the feathers I cut out in the corners perhaps…
Anyway, once I had a bit of an idea of what I wanted to make, I knew how many I had to cut out while I had access to the die…
Almost forgot to stack the fabric the right way 🙂 But thankfully remembered at the last minute – right sides together….
The best part of using the Accuquilt for applique is seeing it come out the other end….
It cuts it so perfectly!!
I played with the Heather Feather die on my last day of visiting Nora, so no time to iron it down or sew… that will be a fun thing to do when I am home again and over my jetlag 🙂
And yeah… I might be tempted to buy this die one day… Nora also had the Heather Feather #1 Die (affiliate link), and on Accuquilt’s site there are lots of ideas on how you can use the two together. Maybe if I was there longer I would have used that one too… or I could put that on my Christmas wish list as well….. hmmm…. let’s see!
For those of you who have Go! cutters – wondering what your favorite Accuquilt die is?
What fun! I want to see what you do with them!
I’ve wondered how hard it is to keep all of the pieces straight when ironing
them in place–let us know!
That will be pretty. I won a baby go years ago but I have hardly used it….. I used the raggy square and the apple core dies

Looking forward to seeing what you do with this, your idea looks great. At the moment I have to say my favourites are the strip cutters, and the half square triangle dies. Have been using them a lot, and at the moment am kitting up more cases ready for the weekend after next when we do it all again!!
Hi Joy, How fun for you to get together with a quilting friend again! My quilting skills and time arre not that far along to use the fancy dyes yet. Your quilt will be beautiful. Nancy
Ooh, that looks gorgeous & I’ve thought I’d love one but not sure about the expense, if I’d use it enough. I can see one of your first blocks for a cushion!! Hmm!! Need to do a few cushions soon. Good to talk this morning, take care & hope you’re jetlag disappears soon.
Looks like fun – but not a piece of equipment I would use much I don’t think. I like the way you were able to change the original to make something you (and I!) like much better.
It’s going to be really beautiful!!

Every time I look at these, I wonder if my cutting machine would work with their dies. It works the same way as their hand turned ones. I’m not willing to risk the $60 to find out, though. LOL The whole Accuquilt system could get quite expensive if you get hooked on it!
