I think it is Monday, which means it’s time for Step 3 of our Scrappy Mystery Quilt-a-long! Anyone else having trouble keeping track of what day it is??!
Today we are going back to 2 1/2″ squares, and we are going to make 24 of these:
STEP 3 OF THE JUNE 2020 SCRAPPY MYSTERY QUILT-A-LONG!
YOU WILL NEED:
120 scrappy 2 1/2″ squares
Divide the 120 squares into 5 groups of 24 squares:
Take 2 piles of 24 squares and start chain sewing:
I like to put a stack on either side of the presser foot:
And then start chain sewing them into pairs (right sides together):
Add the next pile:
Once you’ve chain sewed the first two piles together into pairs, grab another pile and chain sew them to the previous pairs, keeping it all in a chain:
And you’re going to do this until you have used all the piles of squares and turned them into 24 rows of 5 squares:
Separate the rows:
I like to use the Cutting Gizmo to cut the thread between all the rows:
So quick and easy!
Press the rows in the same direction:
And that’s it for step 3!
This is where we are at now with steps 1 – 3:
See you on Wednesday for the next step!
In other news…. we have chookies!
When they and Sapphy first met – both chooks and cat ran in opposite directions! But now they are used to each other 🙂
The brown chookie is called Harriet and the black one is called Beatrice… and they get to free range all day but get locked up at night for safety in their cute little house….
Now we just need to wait for the weather to warm up a little so that they start laying for us!!!!
Who else loves fresh free range eggs?
Oh, I love chickens! We raised them for years and years and think about raising them again, off and on, even now! You will so enjoy them! Chookies is a new name to me!
The new step is intriguing–thanks for organizing this QAL!
Your mystery is so tempting! I love chickens, and nothing beats a fresh egg for breakfast.
This is a mystery! I don’t know that I’ve had any that are 100% range fed, but I do like fresh eggs. Of course, I like ones that have been in the fridge two weeks, too. =)
I’m so glad I kept the extra strip of 3 square patches I’d sewn for the 9 Patch step! Got a little bit of a head start. 🙂
The red chicken looks like the ones my mom always had when I was growing up. Fresh eggs are THE best!
Have I really got to cut another 120 2 1/2″ squares. Still got a few of the triangle units to do yet. Love the chooks & grew up with them as a child, but haven’t had any since, due to me working full time while our children were growing up & probably lack of motivation as we got older. We have thought of it recently though. Take care & stay safe. Hugs.
I wish I’d packed Judy’s Go-Cutter in my case when I came home. My HST’s need ‘short, back & sides! That machine is magic. ðŸ¤
I hope it doesn’t take too long for fresh eggs to appear. (I’m picking up some baby chicks today!) I am enjoying watching this come together Joy – I haven’t started as I’m struggling with getting time for my other projects at the moment…..
