Yesterday was a special day… it’s the first time I went out for lunch at a cafe and visited a REAL fabric shop, The Village Patch, since around March of this year!
I am interrupting our Bee Happy Quiltalong to tell you about the lovely day I had yesterday. visiting The Village Patch Quilt Shop. This post is for Susan from Granny Smith Quilting who loves The Village Patch! Hope you can come too next time Susan!
THE VILLAGE PATCH QUILT SHOP IN MALDON
I needed some wide backing for the wedge quilt, so I decided I’d head over to a small town about an hour away to buy it… and I took my mum along who has been going somewhat stir crazy…
We are still in a stage of lockdown here that we are only allowed to have one other household in our “bubble” but we are allowed to go out for whatever reason we like, including a small road trip to a fabric shop 🙂
Maldon is a lovely town. It’s a gold rush town like many of the other ones in this area.
Our first stop was a cosy little cafe where we sat in the courtyard out back:
I had to take a picture of this cute wheelbarrow:
All the buildings on main street are lovely and old, including The Village Patch quilt shop:

Oooh the colors….
I did do a little bit of damage… I bought backing for the customer quilt, some fabric for a baby quilt I need to make, and ahem.. a little bit more which I’ll tell you about another day because I haven’t taken any photos yet 🙂
It was lovely going out, driving through the countryside and seeing all the spring flowers and blossom.
I’ll be fine to stay home for a while again now and sew, sew, sew!
When did you go out for lunch last and/or a visit to a REAL quilt shop?
Ah!!!!!!! Did you see Lee or Nicole, or maybe both were there? Just at the moment, it’s our days out that are really a huge highlight. Look forward to seeing what all the goodies will become. Thanks for sharing & next time maybe we’ll pop in there together. Take care & hugs from Susan.
What a lovely little trip and visit to a historic town that just happens to include a quilt shop. I felt like I was on a one day vacation trip tucked away in your shadow. Oh, what beautiful fabrics with such vibrant colors. Splendid choices no matter what project a shopper was working on. I have been to a local fabric store a number of times since June, but as good as it is at meeting my quilting needs, it does not have the charm and personality of The Village Patch Quilt Shop. I see why you made the drive to this gem of a shop.
So glad you were able to get out and enjoy nature, as well as good food and, of course, FABRIC!!! Even though our stores have been open since June/July, we don’t go out a lot. We do enjoy an occasional meal out. But of course, I do have to visit my LQS more often than we eat out! LOL I’ll be SEW glad when the larger shop about an hour away opens back up. I’m missing petting all the beautiful fabric there! LOL
I love Maldon and haven’t visited there for years. Definitely on my bucket list when our borders are open. To travel into Albury we have to stay in our border bubble 😩😩 so it might be awhile before a road trip happens. Looks like a lovely fabric shop. Would have been lovely to do a road trip with your mum. X🌺
I know-when we finally get to be outside our little bubble the whole world looks fresh and brilliant! What a cute little shop! Good for you!
a lovely special trip out……..
Lucky you! I can but dream of spending time in a quilt shop (or a yarn store!) at the moment and have been shopping online. Not quite the same experience, that’s for sure!
Oh what a lovely place to visit – so inspiring!!
can’t wait till we can visit a real fabric shop! Have always wanted to visit Maldon’s patchwork shop. Might put it to the top of the list once we can escape lockdown.
