Not sure if you are like me, but I seem to be able to only do one thing at a time…
Ever since my last post, my time in the sewing room has diminished and instead I’ve been outside working on a veggie garden and we got started on what will hopefully be a fox proof chicken run!
We are in a rental property, so I am aware that everything I put in here will stay here when we leave… that held me back from doing a veggie garden for a while, but then I decided to just get over it and get a garden in.
Last year I bought some raised garden beds from Aldi, and I finally got my boys to put them together…
Still got to mix some compost in it and then I will start planting… I already planted some herbs and tomatoes in pots and other spots:
Dad and youngest DS started on the chook yard:
My main contribution has been putting clips on to join the chicken wire:
Dad has designed this chook run to come apart, so we can take it with us when we leave…
The chook house goes up nicely against it:
And now we just have to get the door in and put the roof on 🙂
Soon I’ll be able to pick up my chookies from Granny Judy... I am sure they are going to love their new home and I can’t wait for fresh eggs!
Who else in the southern hemisphere is getting their veggies in?
I like the way you have the veggies with some flowers! The new chicken run will be safe for them and great for you to access, too!
Hi Joy, I am glad that you decided to garden in spite of the obstacles. I hope you are able to reap what you plant but if not it is good exercise and therapy anyway. Your beds from Aldi’s look like they can go with you when you move. We can only accomplish one thing at a time because it takes time and energy for that one thing. I finished the top of a cuddle quilt for my grandson so spent a large part of today pinning the top, batting and backing together. I would love to have a couple chickens but we can’t have them here. Hubby would not let me have them anyway because if I am sick and can’t care for them he would have too and he does not want that! Enjoy your week-end. Nancy
Such a fabulous chook run. Fabulous too that you can take it with when indeed you move. Veggies from one’s own patch always taste so much better.
Love the chook run. That is what I needed when I first got chooks. They are too used to free roaming during the day now to be in a run. They only go into their house at night. Love how your garden is looking. I had planned to have moved house by now so I didn’t worry about any gardening this year but I’m still stuck here & will just keep my pot plants going for now. Hugs, xx
Gosh, I wish it was planting season here! Although, to be fair, I must say that the past few days have been positively summer-like and I’m loving it. The chickens are going to be very happy in their new abode I’m sure and you will be rewarded with tasty eggs.
We’re getting ready to head into winter, but I enjoyed reading about your plans getting ready for summer. Everything looks wonderful. I especially like the raised garden bed.
Well done. The chicken coup looks great. X
Thats looking great… I grew veges for a while but it is just too hot here and I couldn’t keep up with the water… especially during droughts… I wouldn’t mind a smallish bed to nurture…
Hugz
Looking good & we are still thinking about one in the back corner. How come you got ALDI veg beds, when ours didn’t even get any, either last year or this one. They were in the catalogue for the 24th October, but I think there might be more this week, though I’ve a thought about spud bins as they are a little higher & I won’t have too far to bend with this “stupid” back. No strawberries in the strawberry pot.? Good talking yesterday & we’ll be making a date to come over before the end of the year. Take care & stay safe. Hugs.
Love your chook yard, it will be lovely to have fresh eggs and chooks to feed the scraps too. I have been trying to just tidy up the garden after a winter of neglect, and might plant pumpkins, but don’t think I will worry about too much this year, perhaps maintain the rest??
