DH and I went away for a few days to Bendigo, a town a little under two hours away. We had a nice relaxing time away.. no cooking for me, which is always a nice thing!
Can you believe we passed a few quilt shops on the way and I didn’t go in any of them?!
I did however ask DH to take me to the Bendigo Woollen Mills because I had some birthday money from mum and dad to spend 🙂
We’ve been to Bendigo many times, but never visited the woollen mills. Mum used to order wool from there all the time, but I had never…
As we drove in we went past the main factory to this little building:
Next to it was part of the Bendigo Tram workshop…. which probably would have interested DH more 🙂
Inside the shop was lots of loveliness!
Look at all those lovely colors!
The back room had some bargains:
I was on the lookout for 8ply cotton… and did find some in the bargain section… in fact I found a whole bag full…
They have quite a big selection of cotton yarn, and even alpaca wool:
These are the ones I got:
And why do you ask did I get all that lovely yarn?
Because I decided to join in on this Mighty Mile-A-Minute Calendar Blanket Crochet-a-long:
It’s a really easy pattern, even good for beginners… and works up really quickly! I am half way through the middle bit and hopefully will finish it this weekend just in the nick of time before February starts!
It makes me feel like I am crocheting a long piece of lace…. 🙂
I’ve decided to use the colors from the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, even though I am not using scraps or making blocks (although I do hope to actually do that too). So this month’s row is pink….
I don’t have 12 colors, but I did grab all the ones they had. I will have to put an order in online, but for now I have a few to keep me going.
Anybody else want to join in on this fun crochet-a-long?
What a lovely few days. I am definitely interested in the Mighty Mile. Could you share a link?
Joy, I am glad you were able to get out for a day with your husband. I don’t like to stop at fabric stores with him, so I would have done the same.

I wondered what you do with the mile a minute row? I have never heard of it before. Yours is pretty! So nice of your hubby. Nancy.
Glad you had a holiday with your hubby! Sounds like a fun trip. Your row is very pretty. It’s been too long since I’ve crocheted!! That might be a fun thing to do while in car line waiting for my grandsons to take them home for my daughter! Though I kinda already set that time aside for hand embroidery and/or cross stitch! So many fun things…so little time! LOL I guess I’ll watch your progress and see what you create, Joy!
What a wonderful time for a getaway and yarn for a souvenir is the best! Ha!
Ooh, lucky you!!! I’ve never been to the woollen mills either & how much time I’ve spent around Bendigo, though I have been to the pottery a few times. Like the sound of the rug & will join in I think. Can I use my scraps? Didn’t realise you were joining in the RSC, as I’ve heard a lot about it from other blogs I read & of course pink is my favourite colour. Did I spot an old Sydney tram at the tram works? Take care & hugs.
Lovely yarn and a great reason to pop in there… Funnily enough there are 2 ladies I sew (they crochet) that I meet regularly and they are both doing that blanket…. it looks so good all together…

Just the name ‘Bendigo Woolen Mills’ conjures up a mental vision of loveliness. It’s no wonder you wanted to stop there. I wouldn’t have been able to just come home with a bag full…unless it happened to be a very BIG bag!!!
Looks like a fun day! And the crochet project is very tempting. Will have to think on that.
It’s something I would love, but I can’t crochet any more because of the repetitive movements that wind up causing pain. It makes me sad, because I really did enjoy making baby blankets. I will love seeing how yours goes, though. That sounds like a great place to visit, too. I’m glad you had a good getaway with your husband.
Belated Birthday wishes Joy ♥ It sounds like you had a lovely time away – how nice after all those months apart. Great that you got a little shopping done while there too! Thanks for sharing the link for the Mile-A-Minute; it’s very tempting – I do have a lot of yarn scraps waiting for a project….!
