I’ve had a few questions about the Mighty Mile-A-Minute Crochet Calendar Blanket, so I thought I would make another post about it, and share my progress so far.
I came across the Mighty Mile-a-Minute Crochet Calendar blanket while I was browsing Youtube… it came up in my suggestions to watch, and I was curious… I’m glad it did, because so far I am thoroughly enjoying it!
While I’ve taken part in many quilt-a-longs, this is my first crochet-a-long. It is nice and easy, so it’s perfect for me! It is hosted by Jayda in Stitches, and when I looked at her website, I saw she’s been hosting calendar blankets for a few years now. Some of the previous ones are amazing, and well beyond my skill level…. but might be perfect for you, so check them out here!
On to Q&A time!
Some questions I have been getting are:
Are all the rows in the Mighty Mile-A-Minute Crochet Calendar Blanket different?
Yes, each month she will be showing us a new stitch so each row will be different. They will be different widths, but the same length… (looking at the row the way it is stitched, if that makes sense!)
Are there written patterns for the Mighty Mile-A-Minute Crochet Calendar Blanket?
I don’t think so, there only seem to be video tutorials, which is perfect for me because I am visual learner and can’t read a pattern!
Where are the links to the Mighty Mile-A-Minute Crochet Calendar Blanket?
You can find all the videos, plus heaps more, on the Jayda in Stitches Youtube Channel here.
Do I have to do the same colors and exactly the same amount of rows?
It is totally up to you! I am making two… because I have a lot of yarn and am not using up scraps, and because I loved the first row so much…..
The first version I am making is exactly the same as the videos, following the RSC21 colors. I am edging them all with white though, while Jayda is also doing different colors for the edges.
I got my yellow yarn in the mail the other day, so I have started on the February row:
The second version I am doing all different colors and only January’s stitch. So far I have two rows done and started a third:
A friend of mine wants her blanket to be a different size, so she is doing two rows of each… it will be fun to see how that turns out!
Basically, the answer to this question is that you can do what you like 🙂
Are you joining as you go or sewing the rows together later?
I think I will join as I go with the first version, and sew the rows together later with the second version… let’s see, I am not up to that in the Feb video yet… I do love how they look rolled up though, just like crocheted jelly rolls 🙂
Well that answers a few questions. If you have more, there is a FAQ questions video that she made which will answer a few more!
I took my Mighty Mile-a-Minute Crochet Calendar blanket work in progress outside for a little photo shoot…
And got distracted by the chooks asking to be let out….
I like to let them out for an hour or so before dark while I water the garden, and then make sure I lock up them up again so that Mr Fox doesn’t get them.
I also got distracted by picking some more nashi’s and gathering eggs…
In other news…. I have been working all week on getting this year’s BOM ready to go… I think it is almost ready, so hopefully I’ll be able to post about it soon…
In other, other news… yesterday we were told that our whole state was going into a “Snap Lockdown” of five days…. we all have to stay home unless we need to go out for any of 4 essential reasons….. good thing I have a well stocked pantry and have lots to work on!
Hope you are having a lovely stitchy weekend…. stay safe and till next time,
My project has come to a halt while I await delivery of some new yarn colours. Unfortunately, adding new colours just means I’ll end up adding to my stash – which defeats my purpose in doing this project in the first place!
Just curious, Joy! Is it the UK virus you’re being infected with there? Are you able to get vaccines there yet?
The rows do look beautiful rolled up like that–you are making good progress! Love to see your ‘chookies’ . Sorry about the lockdown again…
Lovely Joy. Love how the look rolled up in your basket. Hugs, xx
Crochet jelly rolls look good, but they will have to go together one day(lol). I went to start mine last night, but go distracted trying to choose colours so maybe tonight. We were right about the lockdown when we were talking the other day & our trip to Ballarat has definitely been postponed hasn’t it. Yesterday we mowed lawns (me front, him back), then I got stuck into the weeds on one side between the caravan & the fence. In the afternoon, got out that QAL I was meant to do & did a lot of thinking, maybe for a March start. It’s only small? Take care & hugs.
Your crochet looks lovely….. you will have 2 lovely blankets at the end…
Hugz
I think I will pass on doing this. I am trying to learn to crochet an edging around a wash cloth! I am sorry you are going into a lockdown. We get our 2nd shots next week. Happy Valentine’s Day! Nancy
Love your color choices and your chooks. Have a beautiful day.
