Creative Memories & Crochet Fail!

I am still sorting and decluttering things around the house, and last week I came across a pile that I brought back from Mum’s last year…
The box above says “Bendigo Woollen Mills”…… but it doesn’t have yarn in it.. instead it is full of Mum’s scrapbooking supplies!
You see, before I was a quilter, I was an avid scrapbooker. I was totally into Creative Memories when it first started in Australia. My sister was a consultant first, and when she quit, I became one…. like I was a Tupperware consultant, and like when I became a quilter and started my own shop 🙂
All of my scrapbooking stuff is still packed away, but it was fun going through Mum’s…
I got rid of a few odds and ends, like this old scrapbooking magazine..
But a lot I kept and will use in my planner or for other things… And one day I will hopefully be able to unpack my own scrapbooking stuff! But it brought back many fond memories of when I spent all my time scrapbooking.. until quilting took over my life!
My crochet progress came to an abrupt halt when I started joining the February row to the January one…..
The actual joining was not a problem…. that was nice and easy… this is the problem:
I did the same amount of rows… I checked and checked and checked again…. but clearly the tension is a problem and Feb is about six inches shorter than Jan….
So, now what do I do????? Do I make it longer? Do I start again and crochet looser? Help!!!
So two questions for you today….
- Are you a current or past scrapbooker?
- What do I do with my row????
And just a heads-up…. some special things being announced here on Friday!!
I have never got into scrapbooking – though easily could!
Your row???…Maybe do the March one and see what it matches – then re-do the odd one??
Not sure that works but maybe.
I’m not a scrapbooker, but I do a lot of paper crafts making cards. That is just as addicting as quilting, LOL!!
I’ve never gotten into scrapbooking but used to do a ton of ATC’s which seemed to add up to a large collection of paper supplies that I have since pretty much weeded down to something I might use for making the odd greeting card (which is happening more these days when stores are in lockdown).
As for the length – I’d just add a few more rows onto the yellow strip and call it done.
I don’t know about knitting or crocheting, but if I was quilting, I would just add on to make it big enough. But then I like the improv style. I didn’t get into scrapbooking because of the expense, but I have learned about junk journaling, and am quite taken by it.
I tried scrapbooking but it didn’t ‘stir my heart’ the way fabric did. I would add more rows and not worry about it!
I was also a scrapbooker for many years until the quilting bug became much stronger. Still have most of my stuff which is stored under my bed. I have pulled it out now and then when some of the grands come over and want something fun to do. Can’t rightfully answer your question on crocheting though, because I am clueless on how to crochet or knit. But, in my opinion, I would probably make it longer or make new one and save that one for another project.
I’ve dabbled a little in scrapbooking, but didn’t enjoy as much as sewing or yarn crafts. Still got a few supplies. Now for the crochet………as I started strip 2, I checked after I’d done 10 rows & found I was at least 1 pattern short of strip 1 for the ten shells, so imagine how short it becomes when you’ve done all the rows. I was wondering if I need to use a slightly larger hook for this particular pattern, but yes the same problem as yours. We’ll have to think on this one. I can get my new iron today as “YAY” restrictions have eased. Might see you soon.
Take care & hugs.
Sorry about your crochet problem! I tried scrapbooks but didn’t like it. I like making cards though. At least you concentrate on one thing at a time whereas I have too many different crafts I want to do!
Sorry no help with the crochet, perhaps you can “fudge” it?? I did do some crochet, many moons ago, not a knitter either, and didn’t get into scrapbooking, but did do the Hobbytex thing back in the 70’s and 80’s??
oooh I don’t think you can fudge that yellow…. looks like you could just add on a bit… no scrapbooking here…. but I do admire what others accomplish…
Hugz
I ran into the same problem with my second crochet strip. I decided I would just make it longer.
Like you I was a scrapbooker until lack of space became a problem and quilting won, we’re moving to our forever home soon and I will make room for both
