Yes! It’s finally happening! The 2021 Block of the Month here on Days Filled with Joy… and it is called Let’s Stay Home!
I actually started designing “Let’s Stay Home” last year when we were in our second lockdown… it seemed appropriate at the time… but wasn’t happy with it and put it on the shelf when life got busy and I started having health issues…
At the time, I was throwing around ideas and designs with Susan from Granny Smith’s Quilting… and she also got inspired and made up a version of her own “Let’s Stay Home”… and then also set it aside….
Last month I decided to pick up the idea and run it as this year’s BOM…. and I’m really pleased with how it is looking…
Here is a sneak peek of the first block….
Those are the fabrics and threads I am going with… and you can see some of the design peeking through….
So, a bit more about this year’s BOM…
Let’s Stay Home BOM start date
We will start the Let’s Stay Home BOM next Monday, the 22nd of Feb…. I’ll be posting Block 1 sometime in the evening, Australia time….
Is the Let’s Stay Home BOM free?
Like previous years, each block will be up for FREE for a month, and then go into our Etsy shop for a small price.
How Long will the LET’S STAY HOME BOM go for?
There are 9 blocks, and then borders….. so we should be finishing up in November.
How Big will the LET’S STAY HOME BOM Be?
Each block is 12.5″ unfinished, plus borders…. I haven’t quite decided on borders yet, but I am aiming for a roughly 43″ square quilt.
Fabric Required for the LET’S STAY HOME BOM
This BOM is going to be a combination of piecing and stitchery.
I will be using a selection of 5″ WOF strips as you can see in the photo above. Basically is it perfect to use your scraps for, or grab between 8 and 10 fat quarters to mix and match with.
You will also need about half a meter of background fabric for the stitcheries.
Other Supplies Needed
Threads (I use DMC)
Wisperweft or some other iron on stabilizer for the stitchery blocks.
And the obvious things – needles, scissors and a hoop if you like!
I think that is it… if I’ve misssed anything, just leave a question in the comments…
Let’s Stay Home QAL
I’m pretty excited about this next part… as I said above, Susan also designed a quilt along the same theme, and she has agreed to run it as a quilt-a-long!
Susan’s Let’s Stay Home quilt will not take as long as mine to finish as we’ll be doing more than one block a month… but I will let her tell you all the details on Monday! It’s going to be a fun one to do!
So that is it for this post… I did join in on Friday Night Sew In, but I will put up another post about that since this one is so long…..
Linking up with Whoop Whoop, and Put Your Foot Down
Woohoo! I’m excited to see what you’ve come up with for us! I just found a bunch of teal fabrics I collected for a block hop that I never did, so that may be what I use.
Can’t wait to see what the new BOM looks like.
I’m intrigued
Looking forward to Monday
You’ve done a nice job on organizing this! I’m thinking about joining….
sounds exciting….. thinking… thinking… so many things I want to make

Hi Joy, I’m sooooooo looking forward to your new BOM. I haven’t done much embroidery lately, even though it was the first craft I started, way back when…
I’m still stressing, but I am determined to do it. Think I know how I’ll work it & will talk to you on Sunday. Take care & hugs.
Ooo, this sounds lovely. I’ll check it out tomorrow.
