Like I said in the last post, I did join in with Friday Night Sew In… but the last post was long enough, so I thought I’d make a separate one…. also I snuck in some more yesterday and today because as Wendy says – it’s Friday somewhere 🙂
Friday Night Sew In is hosted by the lovely Wendy from Sugarlane Designs, and I used to join in quite regularly, but as with FNWF I have been missing for a while. I am hoping this year to get back into it.
So, what did I get up to for FNSI?
I finally worked on the binding for the batik quilt…..
But first I had to get Sapphy’s hair off:
I decided to do all the binding by machine, so I started sewing it on to the back of the quilt, and I used the same fabric as the backing….
Next step is to flip it over and use a decorative stitch to finish it off…
So it’s not quite done, but I am happy that I made a start and I should have it finished this week.
I also worked on my crochet. Thank you to everyone who gave me advice on my Feb row being too short…
I decided in the end to redo it with a larger hook. I did ten rows and put it on top of the Jan row to see if it was better, and it was just right…
The bottom strip is the one that was too short, and you can see how much smaller it was.
Here it is finished, with the other strip – such a difference!
There was no way I could stretch the first strip enough to make it fit. I will join it to the Jan strip later this week.
I also did some stitching on Block 1 of Let’s Stay Home… don’t forget to come back tomorrow to check it out!
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend and thanks to Wendy for hosting our virtual Friday Night Sew In!
Oh my, that batik fabric is happy and colourful. Love too, your pretty crochet; such pretty colours.
Crochet is lovely!! I feel your pain with the pet hair. We have a big dog and I’m working on a mostly dark colored quilt. It seems the only hair she sheds is from the white part of her coat! And black fabric is like a magnet to it!! I’ve gone through several of those lint rollers! LOL
I always machine stitch my bindings as most will be community quilts will probably be washed heaps….
Pleased you could redo the crochet 🧶 strip.
A nice evenings work – it is always good to get the binding on a quilt. Gorgeous colour. xx
It looks like you got plenty done Joy, it will be great to get the binding done et voila another quilt finish! I’m glad you sorted out the crochet dilemma, I haven’t got back to thinking about joining you in that yet!!
You have been a busy girl. Most of our weekend was spent in the garden & we got some much needed rain last night. I’m struggling with the QAL & really need help with working out how to write up the instruction details……………………….tears of frustration. I tried a different approach with the crochet, but will definitely try the bigger hook now too. Thanks for that snippet of advice. Take care & hugs.
I love the Batik quilt … the colours are very pretty… & well done on joining in again… xox
Glad you got your crochet sorted out. Love the batik quilt. Hugs, xx
Great to get binding done…now changing to a bigger size needle is good sense and one I would never have thought of…. have a good week
Hugz
What’s a few extra rows–it will all work out in the end! You certainly couldn’t stretch it that far!
Hi Joy, those Friday Nights Sew In sound fun! Good luck getting your binding done – those batiks are gorgeous. Take care.
Looks like you have been busy with both your stitching and crochet.
Definitely worth your trip to Bendigo Woollen Mills too.
Lovely colours for the BOM.
Pretty batiks! Maybe if I used a decorative stitch, I would like machine binding better. I’ll have to try it.
