Welcome to the first day of the Salt and Sand Blog Hop hosted by the lovely Carol from Just Let Me Quilt!
I love the beach… it is my dream to live right on the beach one day… a dream that will probably never happen, but I can dream, right?!
I love sitting on the beach watching the waves roll in, making sandcastles.. and swimming… When Carol announced this blog hop, I was sure I’d come up with something to make!
Of course my first thought was mermaids… but DD is on strike, no more mermaid drawing for her…
The original mermaids above are free in my facebook group, by the way, if you are interested! Just answer some questions and you’ll get in. They are in the “guides” section of the group.
So since my resident artist isn’t drawing for me, I had to come up with something myself! Shock, horror!!
I got to thinking about something else…. have you seen those cute bathing boxes on the beach?
Now I’ve never seen these in real life, but I’ve seen plenty of photos online – bright, cheerful, cute…! And I’ve seen how much they cost!! Uh yes, that is also never going to happen – they cost more than our house!!
But let’s say I did have one… and let’s say other quilters had some… what would a quilter’s bathing box look like?
And that’s how this design came about…. I borrowed a bit from the American Barn Quilt idea and came up with a Quilter’s Bathing Box….
It’s bright, colorful, leaning a bit into the sand on one side….. and has quilt blocks on it of course!
Now I am thinking a whole quilt with Quilters’ Bathing Boxes would be cute 🙂
But for now, feel free to download the block above and make one in your own choice of colors! I am planning on using my block for a bag… but it would also make a cute wall hanging…

Thank you Carol for hosting this fun blog hop and I can’t wait to see what everyone else makes!
How cute! Love your bathing boxes, thank you for the free download.
What a lovely idea, I love your bathing house!
Your stitcheries are amazing! Thanks for the free download.
I’d love to collaborate on a bathing box quilt. It would be adorable.
Very cute mermaids and bathing box. Yikes, those bathing boxes are pricey! I will have to settle for a folding chair and a towel in the sand the next time I go to the beach. Just being on the beach is a good thing … 🙂 Pat
What a great idea! You triggered an “I wonder if” thought which is: what if the beach houses were appliqued with bright fabrics like the many different cabins in your photo? Thanks for sharing.
Connie
The mermaids are so sweet looking and so beautifully drawn and stitched. I sure could use your resident drawing artist myself. You did great drawing the beach hut. And again, your stitching is gorgeous. This is a very fun idea for the blog hop. The design is adorable. I’ve never seen these beach huts in real life either but they sure would be a blast of fun to see them planted on the beach edge. Always so brightly colored.
Nice stitched Bathing Box ,It is a great theme for Salt and Sand blog Joy…
My first comment disappeared before I hit the submit button I think so if I leave 2 comments I’m sorry.
Your bathing box is just perfect, and the mermaids are beautiful. One more adorable than the next. Both capture the salt and sand theme of this hop.
Oh, Joy, this is just awesome! I’ve made some applique beach houses/boxes on a quilt, but I love these embroidered ones. I had no idea that beach houses like those in your pictures were expensive, but now I want to go look into them. They are so colorful and fun looking! Thank you for sharing them with us!
I just love mermaids! You will see when it’s my day ;). I haven’t dove into hand embroidery yet but these mermaid make me what to try! Thank you.
Oh, those little beach houses are so cute!
I did get to see some in person when I was visiting a friend in England, and they are even more interesting in person – all sorts of different colours, decorations, themes, etc. This would definitely make a fun quilt with a bunch of different unique ones :).
That is such a cute design! Thanks for offering the pattern!
Super cute! I love the colorful bathing boxes too.
Love your bathing box Joy, thanks so much for the download! I so loved the mermaids when they came out.
I like your take on the bathing houses, and like you, have never seen them on a beach but sure have seen lots of pictures of them.
I love your bathing box and your mermaids. You know I’ve never seen those little houses in real life either. Do they really exist???? LOL!
Good thing you didn’t go on a mom strike when she was young. LOL That’s okay because you came up with a fabulous idea! Now we need to find an island for sale that has water and coconut trees, and start a Quilter’s Beach! And I think I need to learn to like fish, if I’m going to do that. =P
What beautiful workmanship. I had the pleasuring of getting to see these when I visited a friend in England a few years ago. They are even more interesting than in the pictures – seeing the different colours, decorations, and themes. A quilt with a variety of unique ones would be lovely.
Mermaids and bath houses … so cute!
Thanks for sharing!
I love this! It’s a great handwork project. Thanks for sharing!
Such a cute house block! I love those tiny bath houses, but I would not be able to afford that price either.
Very cute & when you get over this side we’ll take you down to Mornington where there are heaps & even a few at Lang Lang Beach. You know I love to get my sea fix & had a short one on Saturday & I saw the some beach huts then & a ride on the chair lift at Arthur’s Seat.
How about a surfboard propped at the side (giggle). Oh & one down there for sale at $450,000. That did make my jaw drop…….Take care & stay safe.
Fun idea… I would love to live by the sea too….
Hugz
the little building looks so pretty……..
I like it! Thank you for the pattern. The quilt idea sounds fun.
A very cute bathing house.
I love your quilty bathing box. Oh how much fun would it be to have one of those at the beach. Thanks for the pattern.
I adore those bathing boxes and your stitching is just too cute!! I had a friend who rented one of those each summer. I guess being a California girl who grew up near the beach, I just couldn’t see the point of it. Dragging all the stuff to the beach seemed like part of the experience!!
Joy the mermaids and bathing house are just so much beach fun! I second the dream of living beachside. What fun that would be. Thank you for sharing your sweet design/pattern
What a great idea and perfect execution! I love bright bathing houses, although there aren’t so many places that I have seen on the East coast.
The quilters bathing house is fantastic! Bright and cheery. Such lovely stitching!
I’m with you on the dream of beach living. We will continue to make our dreams come true by stitching beachy things like your super sweet bathing box house. Thanks for offering the pattern!
I’m dreaming with you after reading your post. Cute mermaids and bath houses.
What a beautiful bathing house – the bright colors are terrific. I agree that a quilt with lots of them would be amazing. Thank you for the download. Enjoy warmth, sand, and the water with or without a real bathing house.
So cute! I love the bright colors!
Joy both your bathing house and your mermaids are great. I enjoyed my visit today Have a great one.
So cute and colorful! I’m loving it.
