I can’t believe it is April.
I think I may be starting too may posts with those three words… time seems to just be flying by too quickly…
I have been feeling a bit like the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland lately…
“Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!” the Rabbit said to itself, as it took a watch out of its waistcoat-pocket, and looked at it, and then hurried on…
At the moment I seem to be running late with everything… most likely because I am still not feeling 100% and am slow at everything.
If you were waiting for April’s printables, I’m sorry, they are late! But I have made a page for them and they are ready to download. I’ve also started putting up May’s as well, and will continue to put more up over the next week or so.
If you were waiting for Block 2 of our Let’s Stay Home BOM, I’m sorry it’s late! I’m nearly done with writing up the pattern and taking photos, and I am hoping to get it up on Monday…
Having said all that, this is what I have actually been doing over the past weeks…
Picking veggies.. and some berries…
Preserving tomatoes:
Freezing veggies and berries…
The weather is going to be warm this weekend and more tomatoes will be ripening. I already have this big bowl full to deal with…
…so I need to hunt up some more bottles and make more pasta sauce.
I love seeing all the bottles filled with preserves, sitting on my shelf. I use them in stews, bolognese and for soup. Of course I don’t have nearly enough to last me for the whole year, but at least I have some.
I hope you all have a wonderful Easter and I hope to be back soon with Block 2….
Question… do you preserve any of your harvest?
You have a wonderful weekend, too; Easter will be a great celebration with just Bill and I here for church and a light meal when we get home. Some years are like that.
I hope you are being patient with yourself….you will be feeling well again soon and in the meantime, we are all patient with you, okay?!
When I was growing up on the farm, we canned or froze everything and raised our own meat as well. As an adult, I’ve only canned once with my mom when we made tomato-vidalia onion relish. Hubby doesn’t eat many veggies so we don’t garden, plus there are so many deer and other critters in our area, that we probably wouldn’t be able to even have a harvest! LOL Yours looks wonderful and seeing the dish towels with the jars on them brought back a lot of memories! Happy Easter, Joy! I pray you will be feeling better soon.
Have a lovely Easter. Just loved your photos of vegetables, canned and frozen. There is nothing quite like the taste of homegrown tomatoes. Here in California, my tomato plants have yet to be purchased but that will happen soon. As well as eat them in salads and use them in recipes, I roast up batches and batches to make pasta sauce for the freezer.
When I had all six kids still at home (mouths to feed as well as more hands to help), we had a large garden and froze lots of the produce as well as making lots of spaghetti sauce and canning fruits from nearby farms. I have slowed down a lot these days, but hope to do more this year again (if summer ever comes to northern Michigan, USA).
Fresh veggies right from the garden ready for canning! I how I miss the days when I had a garden.
Thank you for the great pattern.
I love seeing home grown veges canned or frozen like you are doing. Last year I made some spaghetti sauce for the first time and my husband loved it so that will be my priority this summer in NY with Roma tomatoes. Take your time posting your next block as we will all be here waiting. It will be cute knowing your talents. Have a blessed Easter.
The time does seem to be going faster than ever, I seem to be chasing my tail all the time…. sadly I have had no luck growing things to eat…. can never keep up the watering….

Good things come to those who wait 🙂
Happy Easter xx
Hi Joy, it is frustrating to be behind. Have you found out anymore about u our being tired? I had a Bone Marrow Biopsy this week for unexplained anemia. Dr. appointment April 11th. Tired of being tired and I imagine you are also. Your frozen and canned produce looks yummy. Is that zucchini? Do you blanch yours? Happy Easter! Thankful for a risen Savior! Nancy
