Last weekend DH and I went camping… which was a great opportunity for me to catch up on my Mile-A-Minute Crochet blanket!
For the past three months, DH has been out in the shed in all his spare time, building us a camper trailer…. and last weekend we finally got to take it on its maiden voyage, so to speak!
He has made it so that we can go completely off grid, so we can camp anywhere. For this first time, we only went close by… but we found a really pretty spot at one of our local lakes…
The great thing about camping for me, is that we have an agreement that DH sets everything up and does the cooking 🙂 I get everything prepped to go and do the dishes! Which of course leaves me plenty of time to relax and do some craft…
This time I decided I’d catch up on the Mile-A-Minute calendar crochet blanket. I was a bit behind, having only finished the January and February rows.
I started and finished the March row last week, so the first thing to do this weekend was attach it to the other rows…
I didn’t like the March row very much, it was quite wonky… but I think it was supposed to be! It did however join up with the other rows easily, so that was good.
With that done, it was time to start with blue for April….
I really liked the April row – it’s my second favorite I think (my favorite being the first row).
It went together quickly and was fun…
When I went to join it up with the other rows, it was rather tight… I was worried that it wasn’t going to work and I’d have to unpick and do it again like row 2, but thankfully it did work out in the end.
I actually finished it last night when we got home… which was good because I ran out of white yarn… Thankfully I had bought another one so I hunted that down and now I am all caught up:
No, I am not tucking away the bits as I go…. one of these days I’ll sit down and get rid of them 🙂
So, it was a lovely and productive weekend away!

Well that’s it for today…. just wondering, do you go camping and if so,
1. what kind of projects do you take with you, and
2. who cooks??!!
Looks like a lovely spot for your first outing. We used to camp and always off grid – sometimes even cooking over the open fire. Nowadays we have a cabin on the river that is our regular retreat with all the comforts of home minus tv, internet and phone. I like your mile-a-minute blanket. k^^
Such a fun crochet project, love all the colors. For cooking, I cook inside and DH cooks outside.
Your project is coming along quite well, Joy! And your DH is very handy to have built a camper! We used to camp but haven’t been in a very long time. Joints too bad to get up and down easily anymore. But as for cooking, we share. He does most of it and all of the grilling. I usually do the sides! I’m glad you had a fun weekend.
We haven’t been camping in far too long! Mostly because we like the comfort of our own bed too much. And probably because we live in the woods already and campgrounds are more crowded than our own home area.
I’m loving the bright and rich colors of your afghan.
I’m narrowing in on the end of my Mile a Minute and am contemplating doing a second one (which will take care of two Christmas gifts quite nicely). I’m using the same pattern for all the strips which looks like it’s the same as the pink strip in yours. I might try a different design for the second one.
I have never been camping in my life and I guess maybe I’m missing something.
Oh, the camping looks so relaxing-love your arrangement! I was quickly disillusioned when we used to go with our young children-I did all the same things (cooking, cleaning and kids) without any of the conveniences! lol I tried to get in some knitting time but it didn’t happen often. The time with the kids without distractions was wonderful and so was our exploring! I like to be by water, too!
Have fun camping……. Looks like a good set up…….
Crochet looking good & of course I’ve only done the 2 rows. Next time we are caravaning in ah…………Ballarat, I’ll get you to show me the third row.(hee,hee). As for taking craft with me, it can be hand sewing, crochet, knitting or my handy graph/sketch book for drawing and designing. The cooking part is basically up to me except for barbecuing. Glad you had fun, see you soon. Take care & hugs.
Great camping arrangement… I can see you opting to go camping more often!!! love the mile a minute with the different centres….

It sounds like a great weekend. And I can see how you are enjoying having your husband home again. Lovely crochet!
