What a week it has been… I wanted to post these pics of the finished batik 10 minute block quilt days ago… but life happened, in this case in the form of a hospital visit.
We had a lovely time away camping, and got back on Monday, since DH had taken the day off. Tuesday and Wednesday I was super tired again, and then on Thursday eldest DS got some test results from his doctor that sent us straight to Emergency at the local hospital.
I forgot to bring my crochet.
I should have brought my crochet.
We were waiting 4 and a half hours to actually see someone… it was so busy! To cut a long story very short – DS has diabetes and they are not sure if it is Type 1 or 2. They kept him in overnight and sent him home late yesterday with insulin and a lot more appointments… to say it was a shock would be to put it mildly…
Anyway, hence the delay in posting pics of this quilt…
I took these pics on Monday before we packed up, because this is DH’s camping quilt and will stay in the camper until next time 🙂
Of course just as I started taking pics, it started to rain… but at least I got a few before it started really pouring!
I am sure I’ll get more photos on other camping trips… now I need to make a semi-matching one for myself! I’ve got the fabric picked out, just need to spend some time sewing!
Here is a video about the 10 Minute Quilt Block in case you’re interested. I bought the book many years ago and should really dig it out again so see what other arrangements there were of the block.
Oh, this is the other quilt I made with the same technique:
I used a jelly roll for that one… it’s a fun block to play around with!
Well, after a somewhat stressful week I am looking forward to relaxing tomorrow for Mother’s Day! I am going to do nothing…. except hopefully sew! Oh, and the next row in the Mile a Minute crochet blanket is up too… so I will see if I can tackle that…
Hope you are all having a great weekend and Happy Mother’s Day to all you fellow mums tomorrow!
Linking up with: Can I get a Whoop Whoop?
Oh dear – I do hope DS is on the mend 0 but yep – having your crochet or hand sewing would have helped!
that is a great pattern for large scraps – I must keep it in mind.
Hope they get to a plan for DS soon and things can get settled…. long wait with nothing to do but sit!!! I just love the quilt you made… really lovely
Hugz
Sorry to hear about your son. I’m glad they were able to diagnose it properly. I love this quilt. The batiks really sparkle against the diamond shaped sapphire fabric. The jelly roll version is lovely. The colors are soft and soothing.
I appreciated the reminder of the 10 minute quilt block. I had experimented with this many years ago and still have an orphan block made with the technique but I had forgotten what the pattern was. I’ve watched the video and now am gung-ho to make more blocks and turn them into a finished product.
Oh dear, I do hope D is OK & you too. You should have rung me! The quilt looks superb & knew you’d find somewhere out there for some great photos. I think I may have that book too, so that would be a great sewing day. Have a lovely Mothers Day & we hope to see you once the X-trail is back on the road. It was supposed to be fine today, but it’s raining lightly here. Take care & hugs.
Stressful weeks must be going around. Hopefully they will get the medication plan sorted out for your DS and he will feel better. Your quilt, btw, looks so cozy and warm.
What a great block and 2 lovely quilts. I hope your son can quickly manage his diabetes.
Oh, some days (weeks) can be like that! So sorry for the ER visit and son’s life changes ahead. The camping quilt is fantastic–what a beauty! And I can’t believe how different it looks in the second version! I really need to try that quilt! Take care, rest up and Happy Mother’s Day!
It is a beautiful quilt, but wow, hospital trips are no fun, especially if they deliver bad news. I wish the best of health for your son, and lots of strength for the family.
such fun to have a photo shoot with a quilt……love the pics……..great colours for the camper also……..
Simple quilts sure can look great……..
hope DS is ok……..
My grandson was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) at the age of 7. He is now almost 13, and handling it so well. He has an insulin pump which makes life so much easier. I’m surprised they couldn’t figure out if it is Type 1 or Type 2, the markers are quite different for the two. Here’s hoping its Type 2 which can be partially controlled through diet and exercise, unlike T1D.
Sending positive thoughts as your family moves forward after diagnosis xx
Love that 10min block and thank you for sharing the video … I’m hooked now 🙂
I’m sorry to hear about your DS, Joy, but at least he now knows what is going on with his body – a diagnosis means you’re all able to move forward with appropriate treatment/solutions, etc. I love your hubby’s new quilt; thanks for sharing the link to the video!
